🍽️ BTS Walk • Day 9

💙 Sensory Snapshot

Today’s Back-to-School Walk stop? The cafeteria.

For many autistic students, the cafeteria isn’t just lunchtime—it’s one of the most overwhelming parts of the school day.

Imagine trying to eat while surrounded by:
🔊 Loud voices and clanging trays
👃 Strong food smells
🚶 Constant movement
😵 Unpredictable noise and crowds

What feels “normal” to some can feel like sensory overload.

💙 Small supports can make a big difference:
🎧 Noise-reducing headphones
🪑 Access to a quieter lunch space
👥 A consistent seating routine
🤝 Understanding from staff and peers

Every child deserves to feel safe enough to eat, recharge, and enjoy their school day.

📲 This post is part of our Back-to-School Walk (BTS Walk) – Day 9 and our ongoing Sensory Snapshot series. Follow along here, and don’t forget to check out our TikTok for even more bite-sized snapshots that explore everyday experiences through an autism lens.
