Congratulations to Dr. Dean Trantham of AnMed Primary Care – Easley on being voted Best Doctor by readers of the Pickens County Courier! More than 5,200 ballots were cast in that contest, the most in the history of this voting by Courier readers.

Having grown up with a mother who was a family physician, Dr. Trantham’s passion for primary care is lifelong, and he values building long-term relationships with patients and their families. He approaches care with the same attention he gives his own family, focusing on individualized, compassionate treatment.

We’re proud to have been named a winner of the South Carolina Public Health Association's 2026 Voice of Public Health Award for our work to provide the Managing Abstinence in Newborns program, or MAiN, a family-centered program for infants at risk for opioid withdrawal.

We collaborate with Clemson University, Prisma Health and the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund to help the 3,600 babies born each year in South Carolina to mothers who used opioids during pregnancy.

MAiN Nurse Navigators provide guidance, support, education and connections to services for those mothers. Anyone interested in connecting with a MAiN Babies SC Nurse Navigator can simply call 864-870-7419 or email [email protected] to enroll or ask questions. The Nurse Navigator will make contact for next steps, like a care plan, hospital plan, breastfeeding support, treatment and recovery, community resources, and ways that family can be involved.

Kick off the USA’s 250th birthday with a patriotic run that benefits Operation Active Kids, which supports health and fitness for local children. America’s 5K comes July 4 in Anderson. The 1-mile Fun Run starts at 7:30am, and the 5K starts at 8am. We’re proud to sponsor the event.

Military members, first-responders, nurses and teachers will be honored in the race. Wear red, white and blue if you have a flair for costumed fun. The race is open to all runners, walkers, strollers and costume-lovers. Medals and refreshments await at the finish, and optional souvenir shirts are available.

Packet pick-up comes 11am-6pm June 27 at Run In Anderson, 120 E. Earle Street.
