Behavioral Health Services Research Department

Behavioral Health Services Research Department Contact us at 864-898-2992 to find out about our current research opportunities. We are currently collaborating with MUSC on several innovative concepts.

Beginning in 1999, BHSPC has collaborated with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) on various research endeavors. BHSPC is honored to be a part of such a prestigious research group especially given the rural setting of Pickens County. This partnership has allowed for BHSPC to serve as a site for twelve clinical trials, five of those trials within the Southern Consortium Node (SC Node)

of the nationwide Clinical Trials Network (CTN). BHSPC’s research department is known for their ability to recruit, retain, and successfully complete their studies. They also received the Research Innovation Award from the CTN as they were able to incorporate several research to practice initiatives. The participants in the research studies are able to influence treatment options nationally by sharing their experience-based knowledge to support the community and science as a whole. The future of the research department is solely dependent on outside funding and the formulation of new research ideas. We are looking forward to research prospects that benefit our clients as well as the community.

Dr. Tracy Smith was featured in an article titled "Why risk perception matters for quitting smoking," which highlighted a study published in Addictive Behaviors. This study suggests that this perception still lingers, shaping how people think about e-cigarette risk today. Dr. Smith is one of the principal investigators on our STEPS study.
