It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Luanna Luxton Armstrong, age 83, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She died on August 23, 2026, at Ball Hospice House. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on June 24, 1943, to Arthur and Celestine Luxton.

Luanna attended Loretto Catholic High School in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, then went to Toronto, Ontario, to attend Ryerson University for Interior Decorating. She started her family and helped support them by sharing a talent she had been developing since the age of three, teaching dance in the basement of her home in Dundas, Ontario.

As her family grew, she continued teaching dance from the basement of her home in Bolton, Ontario. Eventually, an old barn was converted into a dance studio and theater, which became known as Simpson Place.

She ran her Luanna Luxton School of Dance and Performing Arts there for almost twenty years. They also hosted a Rotary Summer Theater Festival, and an annual natural health and metaphysical festival called The Festival of Light.

Luanna returned to her roots in the late 1990s and married her high school sweetheart, Greg Armstrong. They made their home on Sugar Island.

She led a community dance program at Lake Superior State University for several years before opening the Academy of Performing Arts, with studios at the Big Bear and annual shows at the Kewadin Theatre in Sault Ste. Marie.

Gloria Jean (Pavlat) Kangas, age 71, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on August 21, 2026, at Medilodge of Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on December 26, 1954, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Alois Rayfield and Katherine Margaret (Santigo) Pavlat.

Gloria grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and attended Sault Area High School. She later dedicated her life to her family as a proud homemaker, finding great joy in raising and caring for her children and grandchildren. Her family was a central part of her life, and she cherished the time spent making memories with those she loved.

Gloria was a proud member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

In her free time, Gloria enjoyed playing cards, working on puzzles, and making trips to the casino, where she especially enjoyed playing bingo with Grandma Donna. She will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and the many memories she created with those closest to her.

Cameron “Scooter” David Ferraro, age 32, of Kincheloe, Michigan, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. He was born on August 16, 1994, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Mark Ferraro and Rebecca (Streeter) Farago.

Cameron grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault Area High School with the Class of 2013.

Cameron enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, or four-wheeling. He also had a knack for working with his hands and enjoyed tinkering with cars and taking on projects. In his free time, he enjoyed gaming and appreciated the time spent doing the things he loved.

Cameron is survived by his sons, Cartland Ferraro and Bentley Fegan; parents, Mark (Jodi) and Rebecca (John); brothers, Carmine Ferraro, Aaron Sheppard; sister, Jessica Sheppard; grandparents, Charles Streeter and Nancy Streeter; uncles, Charles (Tricia) Streeter, Joseph (Deneen) Ferraro, Michele (Lonna) Ferraro; and aunts, Sherry (James) Beaumont and Maria Ferraro.

Cameron was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo (Mary) Ferraro and Carol (Burl) Ward.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-126, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM with burial to follow.

Cameron’s final resting place will be Riverside Cemetery.

James Alfred Fleming, age 69, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He was born on November 16, 1956, in St. Ignace, Michigan, to Gerald and Barbara (Desrochers) Fleming.

Jim grew up in Clio, Michigan, and graduated from Clio High School with the Class of 1974. During high school he participated in basketball, wrestling, baseball and hockey and was a talented all-around athlete. He attended Michigan Tech and later served in the United States Air Force. In 1981, Jim returned to Michigan and began his career as a carpenter.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time outdoors in nature. He especially loved spending time with family at the hunting camp in Cedarville, Michigan, which he designed and helped build

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, Charles “Chucky” David Orr Jr. He passed on August 13, 2026, at his home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born on January 12, 1961, in St. Ignace, Michigan, to Charles David Sr. and Linda Louise (Soeltner) Orr.

Charles was a long-time employee for the City of Mackinac Island and then worked for Brevort Township sewer systems for many years.

He enjoyed riding his bike, cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, watching NASCAR, and reminiscing with old VHS movies. Above all, he cherished spending time visiting with family and friends and making memories with those he loved.

Charles is survived by his siblings, William (Tabatha) Orr of Moran, Michigan, Melissa Orr of St. Ignace, Sandy (Greg) Kottre of Port Orchard, Washington, Donald (Denise) Orr of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, James Orr of Kinross, Michigan, Holly (Tammy) Downing of Kinross, Michelle (Dave) Oja of Rudyard, Michigan, and Nicole (Lee) Anderson of Dafter, Michigan; aunts, Pat Soeltner of Rudyard, and Mary Jeanette Orr of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Linda and Charles Orr Sr.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Moran, Michigan. A luncheon will follow at 2:00 PM at the library/township hall.

David Wayne Terry, age 67, died on August 17, 2026, at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on July 1, 1959, in Newberry, Michigan to David and Bernadine (Sampsell) Terry.

David grew up in Newberry and attended Mt. Pleasant High School. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Graham Trucking in Dafter, Michigan.

David enjoyed spending time with his family.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Jennifer (Cory) TenEyck; grandchild, Cody TenEyck; great-grandchild, William TenEyck; and siblings, Robert (Bobbie) Terry, Shayna Terry and Kathy Rosland.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Bernadine; sisters, Sheila and Cheryl.

Graveside Celebration will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 3:00PM to 4:00PM at the East Lakefield Cemetery, in Lakefield Township, Michigan.

Thomas Jay Cooper, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on August 16, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on December 12, 1954, in Wyandotte, Michigan to Raymond and Shirley (Pembroke) Cooper, Tom lived out his life in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Tom was a man who lived his life with purpose and dedication. After graduating from Sault Area High, he embarked on a journey with the United States Navy, serving as a gunner’s mate and seeing the world through his service. His commitment to his country and community continued as he devoted over thirty years to the Department of Corrections, retiring honorably as a Lieutenant.

Whether he was running group homes or running alongside huskies, Tom embraced life. He was a big brother on Mondays, a friend at lunch on Wednesdays, the jokester comrade on Thursdays, a master card player on Friday nights, a loving Papa on Saturdays, and a fantasy football champ on Sundays.

Tom’s quick wit and warm smile were his trademarks, always ready with a joke to bring laughter to those around him. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued, listening with intent and speaking with wisdom.

Family was the cornerstone of Tom’s life. He is survived by his loving son, Steve Cooper; his devoted daughters, Jonelle Cooper and Kate (Josh LaMere) Cooper; and his sister, Patricia Lawless. He leaves behind a legacy of love through...

Steven Andrew-Myers Moore, age 37, of Coopersville, Michigan, died on August 12, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 13, 1989, in Du Quoin, Illinois, to David and Sarah (Myers) Moore.

Steven grew up in Mulkeytown, Illinois. He worked as a crane operator for Timber Ridge Tree Service, a job he truly enjoyed, especially because it allowed him to spend time outdoors and work in the woods.

Steven cherished the time he spent with his family whether it was going bowling or going to the zoo. He also enjoyed relaxing together while watching movies at the movie theater or at home. He had a passion for anything with wheels and loved taking his Jeep out on the trails. He was always tinkering with cars, motorcycles, and dirt bikes, and he took great pride in working with his hands and figuring out how things worked. Steven was happiest when he was fixing, building, or working on something. He also had a love for Chinese food, which was his favorite.

Steven is survived by his wife, Sara; children, Brian Hazen and Elizabeth Moore of Sault Ste. Marie; parents, David and Sarah; sister, Lee Ann Moore of Mulkeytown; and uncle, Steven Myers, who was a special person in his life.

Steven was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Gene-Myers Moore.

Jeffrey Alan Sindles, age 60, of Trout Lake, Michigan, died on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was born November 11, 1965, in Libertyville, Illinois, to Edward and Rosemary (Krieman) Sindles.

Jeff grew up in Mundelein and Antioch, Illinois, and graduated from Mundelein High School. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force before returning home and joining his father’s company, Ed’s Tree Service. In 1988, Jeff took over the business and renamed it “Just Stumps,” continuing to build the company through years of hard work and dedication. In 2018, he sold the business and began a new chapter of his life.

Jeff met the love of his life, Laura Zaremba, while they were in high school. Although life took them in different directions, the two reconnected in 1998 and quickly found their way back to one another. They were married on March 19, 2000, in Las Vegas, Navada, and shared many wonderful years together. In 2019, Jeff and Laura made the move to Trout Lake, where they continued building their life together.

Retirement never quite suited Jeff, as he was never one to sit still for very long. Even after selling his business, he continued taking on various handyman jobs, always finding something to fix, build, or improve. Jeff enjoyed staying busy and could often be found tinkering around the yard or garage, working on one project or another.
