🧠Understanding Mental Health in Women🧠

Mental health is crucial for women's overall well-being, encompassing emotional state, cognitive function, and stress management. Women are more likely to experience depression and anxiety due to hormonal fluctuations, stress, and life events.

Common Mental Health Conditions:
- Depression: persistent sadness or loss of interest
- Anxiety: excessive worry or difficulty relaxing
- Postpartum Depression: depression after childbirth

Signs and Symptoms:
- Feeling sad, anxious, or overwhelmed
- Changes in sleep or appetite
- Low energy or motivation

Proactive Measures:
- Open communication with trusted individuals
- Prioritizing sleep, meals, and physical activity
- Stress management through breathing exercises or mindfulness

When to Seek Help:
- Symptoms persist for more than two weeks
- Thoughts of harming yourself or others

Support is available, and early intervention can enhance quality of life. Call 988 (U.S. Su***de & Crisis Lifeline) or visit the nearest emergency room if needed.

This goes out to all my female friends:

I am writing this to educate patients on what to expect when stopping long-term use of any birth control. I have seen, both in my practice and through my own experience, the consequences and lack of education surrounding this topic.

Women — you are not going crazy. In fact, it generally takes a minimum of 3 months or longer for your cycles and hormones to regulate.

Rebound symptoms can include:
• Skin and hair changes
• Cycle irregularities
• Mood changes and headaches
• Sleep disruption
• Irritability and increased anxiety

There are plenty more symptoms to mention, but these are the most common complaints I have received.

And most commonly: PMDD that was masked for a long time.

I am not saying these symptoms will last forever, but they can sometimes be confused with — or interpreted as — certain mental health diagnoses and may be treated inappropriately.

Please seek help from a professional if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, whether related to long-term birth control use or not. I often do not figure this out unless I ask the correct questions:

Are there new stressors in your life?
Any P*P medication changes or new diagnoses?

I hope this helps some ladies out there! I am not saying birth control is bad, mmm-kay? I am educating you so you can be prepared for what you might experience.
