My, it has been a busy last few months, in the best of ways. We are entering into another fully booked month at A Calm Mind Massage. I have not only been graced with the privilege of a full schedule, but an extended time away from work in July to nurture myself and my home life and the blessings within it that deserved pouring into. I've truly been reflecting on one word that has brought me the strongest sense of content amidst the ups and downs: Balance.
We chase and take on more than we can bear at times under the false narrative that "If I take all of this on now, maybe it will create an easier future". We overextend ourselves, and therefore, we put an unrealistic expectation of complete certainty for our future in an uncertain world. In the past, I was a creature of these "preventative measures". We tend to gravitate towards the thought process of:
"I will be happy when....."
"I can relax once I get to this point"
"I can focus on myself once all these other demands have been met"
"I will stop stressing when...."
The comforting truth, if we allow ourselves to see it as such, is that we have the power to be CONTENT and find BALANCE at ANY point in our lives. We just have to release those unrealistic expectations that we put on ourselves that life must go according to plan for it to be worth enjoying. Invite yourself to get to know yourself, your limits, your boundaries, and learn to operate within them. If your kid comes to you with a last minute plan that his friend just pitched to them for that evening, and you were already looking forward to a relaxing evening and recharging, and you feel as if another day of running around and coordinating plans will send you over the edge, be okay saying "Not today, I need an evening for myself". If you're dealing with an employer who is overloading you at work, leaving you drained at the end of the day, be okay with not picking up calls from work during your personal, unpaid time. If you're going to get a massage, be okay with sending out that text to your loved ones saying "I am about to have my massage. I truly need this, and have been looking forward to it. Please understand that unless it's an emergency, I would like this time to be respected and I trust you to handle it yourselves in the meantime." Your balance should not be given to you by others, it should not be found, it should be created by you in reflection of your personal limits. You are more than an employee, a mother, or a caretaker. You do not run on infinite energy. Refill your cup, find your balance, and live your life in respect of it 🖤.
Hopefully someday soon you will see the well-awaited "Availability for this month" post once I have gone through our call/cancellation list, but until then I remain your balanced and content massage therapist, accepting life for exactly as it is at the moment, and I look forward to seeing you at the studio for your massage in another act of love towards yourself in creating your 🌿 Balance 🌿.
Be well, dear ones 🖤!
