Back-to-school season can bring more than supply lists and schedule changes.

For kids, teens, college students, and parents, the transition can affect sleep, mood, anxiety, focus,
energy, and daily functioning. Earlier mornings, fuller calendars, academic pressure, social stress,
and less flexibility can all add up.

A few realistic ways to support the transition:
• Start shifting sleep gradually
• Create one predictable morning or evening routine
• Reduce small daily decisions where you can
• Ask specific emotional check-in questions
• Watch for patterns that last beyond the first adjustment period

The goal isn’t a perfect routine. It’s helping the transition feel more manageable.

If anxiety, mood changes, sleep disruption, focus concerns, or school avoidance are affecting daily
life, it may be time to talk with a provider. Visit our website to request an appointment when you’re
ready.

We accept CareCredit for qualified patients at Elevate Wellness & Psychiatry.

CareCredit is a healthcare credit card that may allow you to pay over time for eligible out-of-pocket health and wellness costs. You can also check to see if you prequalify with no impact to your credit score.

This may be a helpful option for patients who want more flexibility when paying for care, whether at the time of service, after receiving a bill, or before an upcoming appointment.

At Elevate, we believe mental health is whole-body health. That means we don’t only look at
symptoms, we also consider sleep, stress, routines, nutrition, medications, supplements, and
real-life functioning.

We now carry select supplements on-site for patients when they are recommended as part of a
personalized care plan.

Common examples may include things like vitamin D, B vitamins, probiotics, or magnesium
glycinate, depending on the patient’s needs, history, labs when appropriate, current medications,
and overall treatment goals.

A quick note: supplements are not one-size-fits-all.

Even “natural” products can interact with
medications or may not be appropriate for everyone, so we always recommend talking with your
provider before starting something new.

Have questions about whether supplements may support your current plan? Bring it up at your
next appointment, we’re happy to talk through it with you.

TMS isn’t just about what happens during the appointment, it’s about what may start to improve over time.

For some patients, progress after TMS may look like a steadier mood, more energy, improved motivation, fewer “crash” days, and more capacity to function in daily life.

TMS is a non-medication treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate targeted areas of the brain involved in mood. Because the effects are cumulative, improvement is often gradual and may build across the full treatment course.

Like any treatment, TMS is not a guarantee, and it isn’t one-size-fits-all. The right fit depends on your symptoms, treatment history, goals, and overall care plan.

If depression has continued to affect your daily life despite previous treatment, TMS may be worth a conversation.

Elevate Wellness & Psychiatry is now offering TMS in Pierre. To learn more, visit our website or request an appointment to start with a consultation.

If you’ve been wondering whether there’s another option beyond trying another medication, this may be a good time to ask about TMS. Visit our website to request an appointment and start the conversation.

Summer is often presented as the season when everything should feel easier, but that isn’t everyone’s experience.

Changes in routine, later nights, fuller calendars, travel, social pressure, and less downtime can leave you feeling more anxious, irritable, overwhelmed, or simply “off.” You might notice disrupted sleep, brain fog, low motivation, a shorter temper, or difficulty relaxing even when you finally have time.

Our latest blog explains why summer can affect your mental health and offers realistic ways to create more stability without trying to overhaul your entire routine.

Inside, we cover:
• Why even positive schedule changes can create stress
• How longer days and later nights can affect sleep
• Ways to reduce decision fatigue
• How one anchor routine or a little recovery time can help

You don’t need a perfect summer routine. Sometimes one steady habit, a consistent wake time, regular meal, short walk, or evening reset, is enough to give your nervous system a little more support.

Anxiety doesn’t always show up as “worry.” Sometimes it shows up in your body first, a racing heart, tight chest, stomach symptoms, tension, headaches, poor sleep, or feeling like you can’t fully settle.

That doesn’t mean you’re overreacting. It means your nervous system may be working hard to protect you.

A few simple tools can help in the moment: slowing your breathing, moving your body gently, unclenching your jaw, or naming what you notice around you. And if anxiety is starting to affect your sleep, focus, relationships, or daily functioning, support can help you understand what’s going on and build a plan that fits real life.

Come back to this when you need a reminder.
