Men’s Health Week is the perfect time to talk about stroke awareness and prevention.

Stroke can happen to anyone, but men face a higher risk at younger ages. High blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, stress and lack of routine checkups can all increase that risk. The good news is that many strokes are preventable with early detection and healthy lifestyle choices.

At Pikeville Medical Center, our stroke team is committed to providing advanced stroke care close to home for the people of Eastern Kentucky. Knowing the warning signs and BE FAST can save a life:
B: Loss of Balance
E: Eyes - Vision changes
F: Face drooping
A: Arm weakness
S: Speech difficulty
T: Time to call 911

This Men’s Health Week, encourage the men in your life to schedule their checkups, know their numbers and take their health seriously. A simple conversation or appointment today could change a life tomorrow.

PMC is here for you with compassionate, comprehensive care every step of the way. https://bit.ly/4ahSTwP

A multidisciplinary PMC team including Nancy MS RD, Sarah RN, Jamie BSN RN, Lina PharmD, and Dr. Bates had a great time visiting Mrs. Blackburn’s class at Pikeville Middle School as they explored creating healthy Appalachian recipes.

Nutrition plays a key role in stroke prevention and it was exiciting to discuss how simple food choices can support heart and brain health.

Thank you to the students and school for inviting us to be part of this learning experience. 📚🚌🧠

Pikeville Medical Center was honored to share important stroke education with our local Pikeville Rotary Club. They are a great organization and do such wonderful work in our community. Thank you to Dr. Bates for speaking on stroke prevention, recognition, and the importance of acting FAST when symptoms occur.

🧠Community education is a key part of improving stroke outcomes. Remember: BE FAST: Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, Time. If you notice symptoms, call 911 immediately. 🧠

We love community outreach!

PMC’s Stroke Team had a wonderful morning partnering with the YMCA for Wellness Wednesday as part of Stroke Awareness Month. Our team enjoyed connecting with community members to share important education on stroke awareness, prevention and recognizing the warning signs of stroke, along with a few goodies along the way.

Community awareness plays a vital role in improving outcomes and saving lives, and we are proud to help bring these conversations into our region.

A special appreciation to our dedicated Stroke Team for their continued commitment to education, prevention and exceptional patient care throughout Eastern Kentucky.
