One of my favorite parts of summer is gathering herbs from the garden.

Not because I harvested everything.

Because I harvested just what I need.

Summer has a way of convincing us there's always one more thing to do, one more place to be, or one more task to squeeze into the day.

Nature reminds us of something different.

Enough is still enough.

This month's journal reflects on the hidden cost of "just one more thing" and how making space to enjoy the season may be one of the healthiest choices we can make.

Some berry patches are close enough to reach on foot.

Others call for a ride in the mule.

Sid the dog came along as my harvest partner, sometimes hopping out to explore the tall grass with me and other times stretching out on the seat to supervise while I picked.

By the time we made our rounds, this little box was full.

After some quality control testing, the remaining black raspberries will be tucked into the freezer in small packages, ready for winter baking. A reminder that summer has a way of finding us again—even on the coldest days.

You know that moment when you think, "I'll just run out and grab a couple things from the garden?"

Then one thing leads to another...

A handful of parsley.
A few basil stems.
Garlic scapes.
Swiss chard.
Collards.
Tuscan cabbage.
Beet greens.
Zucchini.
Yellow squash.
A few tomatoes.

Suddenly you're wondering if maybe it's time for a bigger basket.

I wouldn't have it any other way. 💚

Most of the time, seasonal shifts are subtle—but when we begin to notice them, it's easier to respond instead of feeling like we're always trying to catch up.

That's why I created the Free Micro-Season Starter.

A simple guide to help you notice what's changing around you and help you choose one next step for the season you're actually living in.

By the middle of July, I usually notice something changing.

My patience gets a little shorter. Small inconveniences feel a little bigger. I'm more tired than I expected to be, even with all the sunshine.

It's rarely one big thing.

It's the accumulation of many small things asking for my attention.

If this reflection resonates with you, you'll probably enjoy Friday Light Notes.

Sometimes we don't need more information.

We simply need someone to help us notice.

The Correspondence is a letter that arrives in your inbox every few weeks, offering seasonal reflections, gentle practices, and small invitations to pause and reconnect with the rhythms unfolding around—and within—you.

No pressure to keep up. No inbox overwhelm. Just thoughtful words to accompany you through the season.

I happened to glance over during my morning walk and spotted this little caterpillar happily munching away on the milkweed. Despite the breezy conditions.

I walked all the way back to the house for my phone because some moments are simply too sweet not to share.

I went out to collect eggs and ended up chasing three other “urgent” things… then forgot why I walked outside in the first place.

Sometimes no one is rushing us.
Our mind just sprinted ahead.

Lately I’m noticing how many good moments show up only because I didn’t leave right away.

The extra few minutes in a conversation.
Sitting outside after dinner before touching the dishes.
One more quiet minute in the garden… and a hummingbird zips by.

Some of the best moments don’t need an hour. They need a minute.

This week’s invitation:
Notice one place you usually move on automatically.
Before you stand up.
Before you head inside.
Before you reach for your phone.

Give it one more minute. Not to “be mindful,” but because the best part often comes after we think we’re finished.

Friday Light Notes are my way of slowing down long enough to notice what each season is teaching us.

Every Friday, I send one short reflection to encourage, ground, and gently guide you through the rhythms of the year.

There's a little shop tucked inside Sacred Prairie. 💚

Over the past few months, I've been rebuilding things behind the scenes, creating a new website where the Journal, Field Guide, The Correspondence, and the botanicals all live together.

If you've ever wondered where to find the herb notes, seasonal offerings, or small-batch botanicals from the farm, you'll now find them all in one place.

It's still growing—just like the gardens—but I'm excited to finally open the door.
