Most small to mid-size companies cannot afford to hire a full time Risk Manager but are in need of one much more so than the larger companies. Because large companies have the ability to hire in house Risk Managers, Human resource officers, Safety managers, Asset protection directors, and Loss Prevention specialist. Small to mid-size companies cannot afford to hire those titles, but still need the
positions just as much. They are exposed to the same accidents, regulations, audits, OSHA, PESH and Dept. To hire someone in house to take care of all your safety and risk management needs would cost a company on average $100, 000 a year. You can get even better coverage and protection for more than half that price. Plus, you won’t have to pay for all the other compensations like you would a regular employee such as health benefits, company car, gas, cell phone, workers comp insurance, unemployment insurance etc…
With Safety compliance and Risk Management, it’s the “unknown” that usually gets companies in trouble. Things like “I didn’t know I was supposed to train on that topic” or “I didn’t know I was supposed to have a written program for that” or “I didn’t know that was a State or OSHA requirement”. The “unknown” normally shows up after an accident or when the OSHA inspector pops in for a visit. This is when the “Unknown” dollars start to increase rapidly. If your company has been doing everything right all along, there should not be any fear of the unknown. However, you and your company need to focus on business, not Risk Management. You don’t have time to learn about and monitor safety compliance. Honestly, there is just too much to know and monitor. You don’t have time to do that. And most importantly pay someone to do it in house. We will take care of it all. And take all that worry and stress of the ‘unknown” off your desk.
