At Miami Vision Therapy, we use advanced technology called RightEye® to objectively track three important visual skills:

🔹 Fixation – How well you can keep your eyes steady on a target
🔹 Pursuits – How smoothly your eyes follow a moving object
🔹 Saccades – How quickly and accurately your eyes jump from one target to another

Using high-speed eye tracking, RightEye provides detailed data about how the visual system is functioning—far beyond a standard 20/20 eye chart. These skills are essential for reading, learning, sports performance, attention, balance, and everyday visual comfort.

Most eye care providers have heard of — and prescribed — pencil push-ups. In fact, many physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals use this exercise as well. 👀✏️

What many people don't realize is that pencil push-ups are just one tool in a much larger vision therapy toolbox.

At Miami Vision Therapy, we're often less interested in simply performing an activity and more interested in understanding what the activity is teaching the visual system. One concept we frequently discuss is Volume of Space — the three-dimensional space between your eyes and a target.

As the pencil moves closer, that volume of space becomes compressed and your visual system must coordinate differently. As the pencil moves farther away, that volume expands and the demands on your eyes change. Understanding this concept helps patients become more aware of what they are actually training during the exercise.

Hopefully this graphic provides a helpful way to visualize what is happening during a pencil push-up and reminds us that vision therapy isn't just about exercises — it's about developing awareness, control, and efficiency within visual space. 🧠✨
