Dr. David Marquis, DC DACBN

Dr. David Marquis, DC DACBN Dr. Marquis is a Functional Medicine doctor who goes beyond symptom management medicine.

How many people do you know that think they have some form of "ADD or Aspergers", or just get "Foggy in the Brain" and are forgetful of names and places or those who stumble or trip a lot. These are all subtle signs of a Brain Imbalance that affect health in ways that will totally surprise you. Patients who have unrecognized neurological symptoms due to an imbalance between their left and right br

ain hemispheres need help and medication isn't always the solution. Drugs treat the hemispheres equally, where as Brain Based Therapy can treat a specific area in the brain; effectively helping the patient recover from symptoms and conditions caused when the brain is imbalanced. These unique therapies when combined with proper fuel delivery (metabolism) allow patients to succeed in overcoming their blocks to optimal health. After a complete evaluation which often includes full labs and physical exam along with history to determine the actual cause of complaints Dr. Marquis will implement an equally comprehensive treatment plan. He will leave no stone unturned to assist his patients in their recovery.

Watch here to learn about the IC valve release!

08/04/2026

Your ileocecal (IC) valve may be small, but it plays a big role in your digestive health.
Located between the small intestine and large intestine, the IC valve acts like a gatekeeper—allowing food to move forward while helping prevent bacteria and waste from flowing backward.

When the IC valve becomes restricted or isn’t functioning well, it may contribute to:

• Bloating and abdominal discomfort
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Gas after meals
• Poor nutrient absorption
• Bacterial overgrowth (such as SIBO)

At Pathways to Health, we evaluate the body as a whole. Gentle manual techniques to help restore normal mobility of the IC valve, along with addressing gut health, nutrition, nervous system function, and the microbiome, can be an important piece of improving digestion and overall wellness.

Your gut is connected to nearly every aspect of your health—from energy and immunity to mood and brain function. Sometimes, supporting better digestive function starts with restoring proper movement.

✨ Healthy digestion starts with healthy flow.

💬 Myth: Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) causes cancer.
The truth is more nuanced.

For years, many women avoided HRT because of concerns that it universally increased the risk of breast cancer. However, our understanding has evolved significantly.

Current research shows that the risks and benefits of HRT depend on factors such as a woman’s age, how long it’s been since menopause began, the type of hormones used, the dose, and her personal and family medical history. For many healthy women who begin treatment around the time of menopause, the benefits may outweigh the risks.

HRT can help relieve hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and brain fog. It may also help preserve bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

That doesn’t mean HRT is right for everyone. The decision should always be individualized after a thoughtful discussion with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals.

The bottom line? Don’t let outdated information or fear keep you from learning about your options. Menopause care isn’t one-size-fits-all, and every woman deserves evidence-based guidance to make the best decision for her health.

✨ Knowledge empowers better choices.

✨ Menopause is not the end of vitality—it’s the beginning of a new chapter.
Hot flashes, brain fog, poor sleep, weight changes, mood shifts, and low energy are often dismissed as “just part of aging,” but they may be signs of hormonal changes that deserve attention.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can be a safe and effective option for many women, helping to improve quality of life, preserve bone health, support heart health in appropriate candidates, and reduce many of the symptoms associated with menopause. The decision to use HRT should always be personalized, taking into account your symptoms, medical history, goals, and individual risk factors.

At Pathways to Health, we believe menopause care should go beyond simply treating symptoms. A comprehensive approach may include advanced lab testing, nutrition, strength training, sleep optimization, stress management, and personalized hormone support when appropriate.

You don’t have to “just live with it.” If you’re experiencing symptoms of perimenopause or menopause, it’s worth having a conversation about your options.

Every woman deserves to feel informed, empowered, and supported through this transition. 💜
