Mathew Dowling, 18 of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2026. The following is a tribute written by his loving family.

Mathew was a selfless, kind-spirited young man who cared deeply and loved the people in his life wholeheartedly. He was hardworking, incredibly intelligent, and deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mathew had a passion for big trucks and fast cars. He worked as a flatbed tow truck operator and diesel mechanic, work that reflected both his mechanical ability and his hardworking nature.

Mathew is survived by his loving family: his mother, Susan Dowling; his father, Wayne Dowling; his sister, Nicolette Schlabach; his brother, Christapher Dowling; his grandfather, Gerald Schlabach; and his grandmother, Michelle Bertram.

A Celebration of Mathew's Life will be held at his home in Pittsboro, 10727 North County Road 400 East, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 12 pm to 6 pm, with dinner being shared at 6 pm. All are invited to join Mathew's family in honoring and remembering him.

Daniel David Gilmore

Mr. Daniel David Gilmore, 73, of Whitestown, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, with his loved ones by his side.

Daniel “Dan” was born on July 21, 1953, in Anderson, Indiana, the son of William David and Mary Carroll (Abel) Gilmore. He attended Anderson High School before graduating from Brownsburg High School. During his high school years, Dan proudly marched in both schools’ bands, beginning a lifelong love of music.

Dan faithfully served his country in the United States Army as a Military Policeman during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a licensed mortician. He dedicated himself to serving others, going above and beyond to honor the lives of those who had passed and to compassionately care for the families entrusted to him. Later in life, Dan continued his investigative work, bringing the same dedication and determination to his profession.

Outside of his career, Dan found joy in many things. He especially enjoyed riding horses with the Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center in Zionsville, Indiana. His love of music remained a constant throughout his life, and he was a talented drummer who continued to share his gift and passion for music long after his marching band days.

Above all, Dan will be remembered for the love he shared with his family. He was a beloved stepdad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought love, laughter, and cherished memories to those who knew him. His life of service, compassion, and dedication will leave a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana. A funeral service honoring Daniel’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, Dan will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memory Gardens with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s loving memory to Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center of Zionsville, the NBIA Disorders Foundation, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Martin Gibbs

Mr. Martin Gibbs, age 101, of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Martin was born on July 8, 1925, in his family’s Brownsburg home, the son of the late Clarence John and Mary Catherine (Roach) Gibbs. He was the sixth of twelve children, growing up alongside four brothers and seven sisters. While raised during the Great Depression, his family’s strength and resilience allowed them to thrive through challenging times.

At age 17, Martin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps alongside several of his basketball teammates. He served valiantly in the South Pacific during World War II, where he was wounded in the line of duty. A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Martin quietly carried his sacrifice with modesty and rarely discussed his wartime service. Upon returning home, he earned his high school diploma from Brownsburg High School.

On February 6, 1948, Martin married the love of his life, Marjorie Jean (Dillon) Gibbs. Their devoted union spanned 58 wonderful years until Marjorie’s passing in 2006. A well-known and respected figure throughout the community, Martin delivered fuel to local farms and homes for over 40 years.

Martin was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Endearingly known as "Papaw" to his grandchildren, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, vacationing in Michigan, and water skiing. He spent many years coaching Little League, attending his grandchildren’s events, and hosting large family gatherings. Martin loved living in Pittsboro and remained deeply connected to his neighbors and hometown. In his later years, he stayed cheerful and active, often seen out enjoying the fresh air in his power wheelchair.

The Gibbs family expresses their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Sunrise Senior Living in Carmel for their extraordinary care, kindness, and support.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Marjorie, Martin was preceded in death by three brothers, seven sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving children, Jane (Steve) Pratt and Jim (Barbara) Gibbs; his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Gibbs (Jeremy Simpson), Rebecca Gibbs, Chris (Andrea) Pratt, and Sara Pratt (Mark) Barton; his beloved great-grandchildren, Riley Gibbs (Noah) Reilford, Mollie Jane Simpson, Cosley Pratt, Anna Barton, Mia Barton, and Elsie Barton; as well as one brother, and many extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Following the service, Martin will be laid to rest in K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life reception from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pittsboro Christian Church following the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Semper Fi & America’s Fund or to the local Pittsboro Phi Beta Psi Sorority.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a small service, at Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Interment will be at K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana.

Robert Lee Holder

Robert "Bob" Lee Holder, 71, of Danville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Indianapolis on February 12, 1955, to the late Clarence and Jeanetta (Pearson) Holder. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Veteran from 1974 to 1978.

A talented carpenter who took real pride in a hard day’s work, Bob had a big personality and never met a stranger—he could strike up a conversation and make a friend anywhere he went. When he wasn't working, you’d usually find him outdoors fishing or hunting, whipping up a good meal, or racking up a game of pool. Above all else, Bob had a deep, unconditional love for his family and treasured every moment spent with his granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Holder, Frank Holder, and Henry "Hank" Owens.

He is survived by his daughter, Brandy (Lee) Godfrey; his son, Lee Holder; his sisters, Mamie (Art) Eaton and Addie (Dennis) Plew; his cherished granddaughters, Norah and Eva; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Service Details:

Michael Allen Russell, 64, born on December 15th, 1961 – passed away unexpectedly on August 9th, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beth, his dog, Blue, his son, Chas (Alissa), his daughter, Chloee (Daniel), his grandchildren, Gracie, Cooper, Hunter, Riley, Fynnlee, Jaxson, Hutch, Terry, Chloe, Jamieson, Deagon, Devyn, his great-grandchildren, Leilani, Lincoln, Prince, Dausyn, his brother, Lee (Cheryl), his sisters, Theresa (Kyle) and Cheryl (Brian), his numerous nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law, Millie.

He was a wonderful man who was greatly loved and will be missed by all who met him. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date with his family.
