Nature lovers, this one is for you! 🌳🐦 Join resident ecologist Norm Christensen next Tuesday for a 90-minute walk on our Pond Loop Path this coming Tuesday.

Norm will help identify the plants and animals we encounter, and late October offers plenty to see. The last hummingbirds are heading south, this spring's fawns have lost their spots, and our pond complex supports well over 70 plant species. And with the fall weather finally cooling down, the afternoon time slot will be the perfect time of day to enjoy this outdoor exploration!

Dancers, mark your calendars! 💃🕺 The Big Red Dance Project visits Chapin Auditorium this Thursday with a performance and information session about sustaining a dancing life as we age.

Director Gerri Houlihan, age 81, will share her own story in dance and the thinking behind the choreography. You will be invited to join a seated warm-up and learn movements from one of the pieces, with time for questions with the dancers at the end.

Few topics in medicine spark more questions than GLP-1 therapies these days.

Join us next Tuesday as Dr. John Buse, recently retired as Director of the UNC Diabetes Center, presents "Promise, Perils and Possibilities" in our Advances in Contemporary Medicine series. He will cover what these medications do and how to weigh their risks and benefits, the kind of trusted guidance our residents value alongside on-campus care in partnership with UNC Health and Duke Primary Care.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are marking it together as a community.

Stop by our Breast Cancer Awareness Information Station in the Great Hall next Tuesday, October 13th, for helpful resources and giveaways. We invite everyone to wear pink that day in honor of the fighters, the survivors, and the loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Mark your calendars! Deborah Rutter joins us this Sunday for a talk titled "Art for Life's Sake", where she will share how the arts build empathy and strengthen the values that hold a community together.

Deborah has led some of the nation's most celebrated arts institutions, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Today she serves as Vice Provost for the Arts at Duke University.

We’re proud to announce Galloway Ridge is officially Bird Friendly certified by the Audubon Society — the result of years of habitat restoration and stewardship across our woods, ponds, and trails. From the To***co Barn Woods to the Pond Ecosystem, five distinct habitats now support more than 105 bird species and a rich list of 200+ native plants, ferns, and mosses. A special thanks to our amazing resident Norm Christensen for observing and documenting our diverse flora and fauna!

This recognition reflects our Life Plan community’s commitment to holistic wellness and purposeful aging. Residents and staff, led by our Facilities Management team and Grounds Committee, collaborate on invasive species control, native plantings, and habitat projects that enhance safety, beauty, and biodiversity for everyone (and our feathered friends 🐦) to enjoy.
