Over the years, we've had the privilege of helping many older adults, retirees, and professionals rebuild their lives in recovery. While addiction can happen at any age, the challenges later in life can look different—retirement, isolation, grief, health concerns, and major life transitions can all take a toll.

At The Cedar House, we provide more than just a safe place to live. We help residents connect with doctors, therapists, recovery resources, family support, and meaningful activities that bring purpose back into daily life.

Whether we're attending a concert, visiting a museum, taking a walk in the park, enjoying chair yoga, or simply sharing a meal together, we believe recovery should be about living—not just abstaining.

We've watched residents arrive feeling isolated, discouraged, and physically limited, only to leave stronger, healthier, and more connected than they imagined possible.

We had the opportunity to visit Caron Florida and were truly blown away — not only by the beautiful facility, but by the heart behind everything they do.

From the thoughtfully designed spaces to the incredible programs and level of care given to each patient, it’s clear that recovery is approached with compassion, dignity, and excellence every step of the way.

“I’m not exactly sure where we’re going—but we’re not going back.”

That’s something I say often to families who have loved ones staying with us at The Cedar House.

Because the hardest part of recovery isn’t always getting sober—it’s what comes next.

Going home. Rebuilding trust. Figuring out how to live again without falling into old patterns.

There’s no clear timeline and no perfect formula.

Just real people doing real work, one step at a time.

Plant & Dine at The Cedar House

This week our Cedar House community gathered for a special Earth Day Plant & Dine event. Residents, alumni, and recovery support clients shared a meal and created their own little recovery gardens—planting flowers while decorating signs with messages like “Sober & Growing” and “Grow Through What You Go Through.”

Recovery grows best in community, and it was a beautiful night of connection, creativity, and encouragement.

We also celebrated Matt D. on his 1 year of sobriety — an incredible milestone! 🎉
