Remember how happy Andy was to leave the hospital last Friday? Well guess what… He’s been admitted back to the hospital and it’s been a crazy world wind adventure or should I say nightmare.

On Sunday, Andy was really nauseous and said he felt like he had the flu. The area around his stomach was red and hot to the touch and was expanding quickly.

His surgeon said it was really too soon to have an infection, but said we better come straight to the ER.

Upon arrival, a surgeon did a bedside surgery where they cut him open and tried to take the blood out out of his abdomen. They were happy to find no infection in there. However, a CT scan showed he had an obstruction of the small bowel.

They quickly placed an NG tube because his stomach had expanded and looked like a balloon ready to pop. He was admitted and finally had a bed by 1 AM. Which of course is always a battle getting an alternating air pressure mattress which is necessary to keep Andy from developing a bed sores.

So so this morning, Andy’s team decided that he needed emergency surgery to fix his small bowel obstruction. In a 3 hour surgery he fixed the obstruction, repaired the hernia and reconstructed his stoma.

Andy is going to be pretty beat up for a while (and pretty miserable) from all the tugging and pulling they had to do (and not eating/drinking). He still has the NG tube in, and they expect it to stay in for a few days. There is a high risk of infection. He will be in the hospital for “at least a week” depending on how things go.

Andy wanted all his anchors to know what was going on so you could keep him in your thoughts and prayer and cheer him up a bit.

I hope this is true. I hate leaving my wheelchair with the baggage crew and hoping that my wheelchair is in one piece when we land.
