Very thankful to have been invited into this community and on this learning/unlearning journey, etc. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cervical Revolution is a secondary PRI course; I just took my first primary (Postural Respiration) last month but with encouragement and support from my colleagues Iโ€™m continuing to dive in.

One more Postural Restoration course next month (Myokinematic Restoration) and then I will be taking a little break to study/synthesize/integrate what Iโ€™ve learned so far.

Love being surrounded by so many intelligent and curious practitioners so willing to share their knowledge and help others on this path!

This is going to be a game changer for my TMD clients (but yโ€™all are probably going to have to get off the table ๐Ÿ˜›)

Clients (who have booked within the last 3 months), I sent an email out yesterday with some updates. Hereโ€™s the important stuff:

I am extremely grateful for the growth my business has experienced since moving into a physical location this past February, and canโ€™t thank you all enough for trusting me with your athletic recovery and pain management needs. I am committed to providing my clients with the best possible care by going above and beyond continuing education requirements to continually expand my skillset. Along with this growth comes an update to my pricing.ย

Effective October 1st, 2022, rates will be as follows:

60 min - $95
90 min - $135
120 min - $180

With this pricing change, please keep in mind that tips are never expected. As a sole proprietor, I set my prices at a rate that is sustainable for me to make a living without tips. Cupping and kinesiology tape application will continue to be offered with no additional charge.ย

If you would like to take advantage of current pricing for a bit longer, you can prepay for any appointments you have scheduled from 10/1/22-12/31/22 by scrolling to the bottom of your confirmation email and clicking the โ€œChange/Cancel Appointmentโ€ button. The page that pops up will allow you to pay for your appointment in advance. If you need assistance with this process, please let me know. Any appointments not prepaid by 10/1/22 will be charged the updated rates at the time of your appointment.ย โ€จ
I understand that with this pricing update, some clients may not be able to continue coming in at the same frequency or may want to switch to a shorter session length. Please donโ€™t hesitate to contact me if you would like to make any changes to your scheduled appointments.ย

Thank you again for all your support!

Voting is now open for Pittsburgh City Paper's 2022 Best of Pittsburgh readers' poll! I am one of the top 10 finalists in the Best Massage Therapist category.
Obviously, โ€œbestโ€ is super subjective, but if you feel so inclined, you can vote for me and your other favorite local businesses via the link in my bio!
It does require an email. Thank you ๐Ÿ–ค

Itโ€™s come to my attention that in these intraoral massage videos, a lot of laypeople donโ€™t know what the heck my hand is doing in there! This is just soft tissue work - just like the other bodywork I do, except Iโ€™m accessing specific muscles from inside the mouth.

In these clips, I am working on:

1. ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฝ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜†๐—ด๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ฑ - We have one on each side. When the two work together, they open the mouth by bringing the jaw forward and down. Each side also works alone to move the mandible to the opposite side (grinding motion) - AKA, contracts unilaterally to produce lateral movement to the contralateral side - say that five times fast!
2. ๐— ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ - This is the primary muscle of chewing. It raises the mandible. Those who clench and grind their teeth can experience pain and tension around here as well as headaches and TMJ pain.
3. ๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜ - so, a little different than the other two techniques. My left hand is palpating the TMJ while my right hand slightly pushes downward on the rear molars to provide gentle traction to the condyle of the TMJ. I have a post with more details on this one from May 20th.

Gentle soft tissue work to these muscles, plus a couple others not shown here, can quickly provide long-lasting relief from headaches, TMJ pain, and earaches.

If youโ€™re interested in receiving this work, I recommend booking a 60 minute session which will include thorough work to the other muscles of the head, neck and shoulders.

A lot of my clients ask me about what other kinds of athletes I work on. Most of my athletic clients are either powerlifters/weightlifters or endurance athletes (runners, cyclists, triathletes).

But others are involved in group fitness, circus arts, rowing, jiu jitsu, football, obstacle course racing, golf, dance, horseback riding, and more!

Some clients are not super active, but benefit from bodywork to manage pain and movement restrictions associated with their occupations and everyday activities.

And when I say โ€œathletesโ€, Iโ€™m talking about people like you and me. Sure, there have been some bigger names on my table, but most of my clients are recreationally active adults who want to feel and perform better in their chosen activity.

SCM work. I sometimes have the client slightly lift their head off the table to make it easier to grab ahold of that thing. Add a little rotation in and repeat down the length of the muscle.

Lots of clients skip arms when they get worked on. I even suggest it if we only have 60 minutes and Iโ€™m doing targeted work elsewhere. But, youโ€™ll be missing out on this ๐Ÿ’ช

60 minutes is enough time for full body Swedish/relaxation massage. For thorough deep tissue work, not so much. If you need me to get more than a couple areas, be sure to book for 90 or 120 minutes! I can do a little bit everywhere in an hour, but you might not feel much different when you leave.

90 minutes is my most popular session, and even then thatโ€™s not usually for full body work. Most clients have a couple areas of concern they want me to work on, and then get a little on the surrounding areas. Or, they get detailed work on either upper or lower body. OR, they donโ€™t have any particular areas that need detailed work and only then do I have time for full body (still faster-paced) deep tissue.

Iโ€™m finding that I donโ€™t have to explain this to new clients as much anymore, as they are coming to me because they want targeted work and understand that they could get a full body routine elsewhere.

Basically, if youโ€™re feeling it โ€œeverywhereโ€ and want my slow-paced and focused style of workโ€ฆgo for the 2 hours! At least for your first session - then we can make a plan to address specific areas in shorter sessions over time.

I am always happy to answer any questions you have about how long you should book for if youโ€™re unsure.
