Allegheny General Hospital's LifeFlight provides regional emergency helicopter and critical care ground transportation services for critically ill and injured patients who need immediate specialized care. LifeFlight is available 24 hours day, seven days a week. LifeFlight has completed more than 60,000 missions-working side-by-side with EMS providers and community hospitals in a four-state area. LifeFlight helicopters serve western Pennsylvania, southeastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and western Maryland. operates the 6 helicopters in the LifeFlight program.

LifeFlight 2 in Venango County working beside our partners from Community Ambulance Service, Pinegrove Township VFD, and Seneca Volunteer Fire Department for an injured person in a remote location with difficult access. This call required the rope rescue team from Seneca VFD. We are thankful for the collaboration from all!

Got 49 seconds? Let us take you into the clouds to catch a glimpse of what we see when flying under IFR.

IFR stands for Instrument Flight Rules, which is a set of regulations and procedures that allows helicopters to fly safely when visibility is extremely low, such as inside thick clouds. Instead of looking out the window to steer and avoid obstacles, pilots fly the helicopter relying solely on the cockpit flight instruments and guidance from Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Flying IFR is like driving a car in a blinding blizzard using only your GPS, radar, and lane-assist technology to keep you safely on the road without ever looking outside.

Because helicopters often fly lower to the ground than airplanes—closer to buildings, towers, and mountains—flying IFR requires specialized, highly advanced autopilot systems, dual navigation instruments, and intensive pilot training.

Be sure to catch LifeFlight’s simulation team at one of their six hands on scenario clinics on Saturday, September 26. The limited time slots are able to accommodate a maximum of 9 providers, so be sure to register ASAP!

Today, AHN Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) was proud to serve as a special host stop for the PA EMS Memorial Bike Ride during the annual PA EMS Weekend of Recognition and Remembrance! 🚁💙🚴
We want to send a special and well-deserved shoutout to the incredible AGH staff for showing up in such a powerful way! Standing proudly alongside the riders, motor units, and fellow first responders was an inspiring display of unity, respect, and community support.
It was a true honor for AGH to welcome this meaningful cycling event, which honors the service, sacrifice, and memory of Pennsylvania EMS providers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We stand firmly with the PA EMS Provider Foundation in its vital mission to champion provider wellness, fund educational scholarships for future providers, and support the families of fallen heroes across the Commonwealth.
Thank you to our amazing AGH team for your phenomenal turnout, to the dedicated cyclists for your ride, and to everyone who stopped by today to remember our heroes and celebrate the strength of our emergency medical services community.
