John William Fisher
July 4, 1944 – July 27, 2026
John William Fisher, 82, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 27, 2026, at Concordia at Monroeville. He was surrounded by compassionate caregivers who became like family during his time there. John greatly appreciated the kindness shown by the entire staff, especially his nurse, Matt, whose friendship, compassion, and dedicated care brought him comfort and peace.
Born on July 4, 1944, John lived a life defined by love, perseverance, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Fisher (1987), and his mother, Edna (Meyer) Fisher (2004).
John is survived by his beloved son, Brian John Fisher, and Brian’s wife, Laurie (Wolz) Fisher. He was an incredibly proud grandfather to Hudson B. Fisher and Summer I. Fisher, who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Fisher, Tom’s wife, Eleanor Chute, and his nephews, David (Brittany) Fisher and Daniel (Taylor) Fisher.
John graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1961 before earning an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Point Park College in 1963. He continued his education by taking courses at Robert Morris College from 1963 through 1967. During those years, he proudly served six years in the United States Army Reserve, demonstrating an early commitment to service and responsibility.
In 1965, John married Lynn (Bruwelheide) Fisher. Although they divorced in 1999, their bond of friendship and mutual respect never faded. They remained close and continued to care deeply for one another throughout the rest of John’s life, a testament to the love and respect they always shared.
John enjoyed a successful career spanning more than three decades in banking. He began as a Manager Trainee with Landmark Savings, later worked as an On-Line Account Manager for NCR, spent 19 years as Manager of Online Services at First Federal of Pittsburgh, and concluded his career at PNC Bank as a Business Banking Tester before retiring in 2001.
While John was proud of his professional accomplishments, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He often said that the greatest day of his life was the day he adopted his son, Brian. Becoming a father fulfilled a lifelong dream, and from that day forward, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family. The interest he took in his family was huge. His love was unconditional, steadfast, and evident in everything he did.
John was a simple man who never measured success by material possessions. Instead, he valued people, meaningful conversations, laughter, and the everyday moments shared with those he loved. He had a warm personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and a remarkable ability to make others feel comfortable and valued. He genuinely enjoyed talking with people, offering encouragement, and sharing thoughtful advice. He also had a deep love for animals and found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
One of John’s greatest sources of pride was the strength he showed in overcoming life’s challenges. He successfully battled alcoholism, quit smoking cold turkey, and overcame colon cancer. These victories reflected his resilience, determination, and positive outlook on life. No matter the obstacle, John refused to give up. His perseverance inspired those around him and served as a lasting example of courage and hope.
John will be remembered for his humor, his optimistic spirit, his kindness, his unwavering positive mental attitude, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and quiet strength that will continue to live on through his family and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Concordia at Monroeville for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided John. A special thank you is extended to Matt, whose kindness and genuine friendship meant so much to John and to his family.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held at Charles W. Trenz Funeral home (11110 Frankstown Road, PGH, PA 15235) on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 3 PM. Visitation with family and friends begins at 2 PM
John’s family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy is not defined by the years he lived, but by the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the example he set. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
