Part one of a two-part training series complete.

Today I facilitated a compassion fatigue workshop hosted by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner for helping professionals from across the county.

The session created space to explore the impact of sustained helping work, recognize stress and compassion fatigue, reflect on boundaries, and consider what it means to remain sustainable while doing work that requires so much of us.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was the conversation in the room.

Participants brought their own experiences and insights into the discussion—reminding us that effective professional development isn't only about delivering information. It's about creating space for people to recognize themselves in it.

Next week, I returns for part two with directors and leaders, shifting the focus toward leadership that sustains both the people doing the work and those responsible for leading them.

At Vitamin C Healing, we partner with organizations to strengthen workforce well-being through keynotes, workshops and facilitated learning experiences that help professionals and leaders do demanding work more sustainably.

I've been thinking a lot about Pittsburgh lately.

It feels like every time I open the news, there's another heartbreaking story. Another life lost. Another family forever changed. Several of these recent tragedies have involved intimate partner violence, and the weight of it all has been hard to ignore.

While these stories are unfolding here in Pittsburgh, I know many communities across the country are carrying similar grief. It's made me think about something we don't talk about enough: community trauma doesn't stay where it happens. It follows us into our homes, our relationships, and our workplaces.

Tomorrow, people will show up to work carrying things no one else can see. Some will be grieving someone they knew. Others will be worried about their own safety or the safety of someone they love. Many will simply be trying to make sense of another heartbreaking headline.

That's why I keep coming back to grace.

Not because expectations no longer matter, but because people don't stop being human when the workday begins. Sometimes what looks like distraction, irritability, or someone being "off" is really someone doing their best while carrying more than they know how to put into words.

I've been reminded that we never really know what someone is carrying. In seasons like this, a little more grace, patience, and compassion can go a long way.

Take good care of yourselves and each other. 💚

I'm honored to join an incredible lineup of speakers this Friday for Professional Speakers Day. I'll be sharing five lessons I've learned on my speaking journey, including why the goal isn't to be the most impressive speaker—it's to be the speaker people remember because they felt seen.

If you're a speaker or aspire to be one, I'd love for you to join us.

Burnout isn't just about feeling overwhelmed. It's about what happens when chronic workplace stress begins to affect every area of our lives.

I'm honored to share that The Baltimore Times published my latest article, "Burnout Doesn't Stay at Work."

In it, I explore why burnout isn't just a workplace issue; it's a community issue and why emotionally sustainable leadership and healthier workplace cultures matter more than ever.

Thank you to The Baltimore Times for the opportunity to share this message.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it and share it with someone who may need it.

We often assume the people who never complain, never miss a deadline, and always step up are doing just fine.

But high performance can sometimes hide a heavy emotional load.

One of the most important leadership skills isn't just noticing who is struggling. It's recognizing when your most dependable employees may be carrying more than anyone realizes.

Sustainable workplaces are built before people burn out.

Not everything that looks like resilience is actually resilience.

Sometimes it's habit.
Sometimes it's survival.
Sometimes it's someone who's been carrying so much for so long that they no longer recognize the weight.

One of the hardest things about compassion fatigue is that it rarely announces itself. It often shows up quietly—increased irritability, emotional numbness, difficulty concentrating, or simply feeling like you're running on empty.

The goal isn't to wait until you break.

The goal is to notice the subtle shifts before they become your normal.

Burnout doesn't always begin with the workload.

Sometimes it begins with the stories we tell ourselves that keep us carrying more than we were ever meant to carry.

Those stories can quietly become part of your workplace culture.

Awareness is often the first step toward change.

Which one on the list have you caught yourself saying lately?
