Family Resources hosted a Meet and Greet at our new home in the Cardello Building. Mac and Cheese, along with our staff, were the hosts! We were all excited and grateful to meet our new neighbors and connect with them about the importance of mental health during Mental Health Awareness Month!

Earlier this year, Sara Innamorato, Allegheny County Executive, visited our Beverly Jewel Wall Lovelace (BJWL) site at Homewood.

Sara engaged with our kids during their Out-of-School time activities, met our dedicated staff, and listened as Brooke Generett Ware, Family Resources Director of Prevention, explained the ongoing rewards and challenges of the six sites we have Pittsburgh.

Realizing the importance of before and after school or summer programs for young children, Allegheny County’s Department of Child Initiatives has announced a new initiative, Forward with Families, a “coordinated effort to strengthen the wellbeing, stability, and opportunities of working families across the region.”

Their goal is to generate 5,000 new childcare and Out-of-School Time slots over the next five years.

Family Resources appreciates Sara’s time and attention during her visit with our kids and staff. We look forward to continuing our work with Allegheny County to maintain safe, reliable, and educational settings for our Out-of-School Time program.

Then: Mac & Cheese at 8 weeks old beginning service dog training

Now: Graduates of Service Dog Training and proud to be Mental Health Canines.

Mac & Cheese couldn’t be prouder to graduate as Service Dogs and officially become Mental Health Canines. How lucky are the children and families of Family Resources to have Mac & Cheese supporting their educational, behavioral and mental health goals!

The training journey was “ruff” at times but look at them now! Congratulations to Mac & Cheese for successfully completing their basic obedience training, public access training and Task Specific training!

The staff at Family Resources is always preparing for changes that could affect the lives of our families and our services. Next week, when the NFL Draft in town, is no different.

Family Resources Director of Prevention, Brooke Generett Ware, and Jamayia Moore, Operations Manager for our BJWL Out of School-Time program, talked with NPR about the changes that we made to continue to provide safe spaces for our kids to learn.

With Pittsburgh Public and several charter schools operating online during the NFL Draft, city recreation centers are stepping in to provide students with safe spaces to learn.
