Edna B. Matthias, age 88 of Poland, Ohio, formerly of Dravosburg, passed away on October 29, 2015 at the Maplecrest Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Care in Struthers, Ohio. Born December 24, 1926 in Dellslow, WV. She is the daughter of the late Clement and Lynne Belle (Pixler) Laraway. Edna loved to bake and was an avid reader; she was involved with the Dravosburg Womens Club and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. After retiring to Maplecrest, she enjoyed playing Bingo with her fellow residents. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Steindl, a grandson Erik Steindl, and her two brothers, Walter and Clement Jr. Edna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jacob "Russ" Matthias; two daughters, Mrs. Edna B. Grimes (and her late husband Dr. Randy), Mrs. Lorraine S. "Rainy" Miller and her husband John; a son Russell Matthias and his wife Gloria; seven Grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home - 301 Curry Hollow Rd. Pittsburgh PA. with the Funeral Service taking place on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at both Maplecrest and Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care that they provided to Edna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edna's name may be made to Hospice of the Valley - Youngstown.

Jacob Russell Matthias born February 17, 1926 deceased November 5, 2016. Jacob was a wonderful, loving, caring, Christian man who was devoted to Jesus and his family. He was born the third child of Rose and Jacob Matthias in Hays, Pennsylvania. He grew up with 2 older brothers and 2 younger sisters: Dorothy (Vecchio) and Rosemarie (Swaboda). He quit school at the age of 16 and went to work to help his family’s financial situation after his father passed away. At 17 years of age, he was drafted into the army as a soldier during WW2 in 1943, at the height of conflict. Traveling from Paris France to Amsterdam and Scotland he finally wound up in England where he boarded the Queen Mary for New York Harbor in 1945. He saw much action during the war and returned to the states to become a military policeman. Awards for his service include the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and the combat infantryman badge. After the war, he applied and was accepted for a position in the Homestead Steel Mill where he worked swing shifts for 38 years! In 1950 he met and married his beloved “Edna Belle Laraway.” They were together for 65 years and they were utterly devoted to each other. Jacob became a 33rd degree mason and Edna was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for life. He served as an elder at the Amity Presbyterian Church in Dravosburg, PA and also volunteered for the local meals on wheels for over a decade. He loved the outdoors, traveling with his wife in...

Next Sunday, August 9th is our annual car show event. Please be aware of increased cemetery traffic if you are visiting a loved one. The event is concentrated around our main entrance between the cemetery administration building and the Jefferson Mausoleum along the Mall.

This event directly supports the Best of the Batch Foundation.

Reminders:
-Entry and parking free to all
-$15 registration fee to enter your car for judging
-Please enter the cemetery at the main cemetery entrance (across from the Dollar General)
-All other visitors are encouraged to use the Funeral Home entrance
-Please bring a non-perishable donation for the Cloverleaf Food Pantry including canned goods, 4-roll of toilet paper, socks, etc.
