Mt. Assisi Place

Mt. Assisi Place At Mt. Assisi Place, residents find a personal care community that provides them with the quality care they need to remain as independent as possible. Francis.

Marian Hall Home is an assisted-living facility situated on an 11-acre campus, high atop a hillside overlooking beautiful vistas in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. It is state-licensed, and has been dedicated to professional, respectful care for the elderly since 1970. Marian Hall is located at Mount Assisi Convent, the home of the School Sisters of St. We provide 60 private, furnished rooms i

n two buildings that include modern security systems. Each room includes a private bath, individual temperature control, and an emergency call system. Laundry, linen, and housekeeping services are also part of our daily care. Telephones and cable television are available at affordable fees. Residents can provide their own personal furniture, if they desire. Our cafeteria is open for three meals and two snacks each day. Food is also stocked in resident lounges on each floor. Residents find Marian Hall has a family atmosphere, where they can be as independent as possible. They enjoy unlimited visitation privileges, both on and off the Mount Assisi campus. All in all, Marian Hall is a great place to live! Individuals in need of personal care for certain activities of daily living require an atmosphere of support, but one that fosters independence as well. Staff personnel at Marian Hall are dedicated to achieving such balance, for the welfare of residents, their family members, and other caregivers. Residents can receive round-the-clock care under the supervision of our nursing staff. They also enjoy unlimited visitation privileges, both on- and off-campus, which contributes greatly to the family atmosphere of Marian Hall. And our beautiful chapel helps all the people of Marian Hall enjoy a full spiritual life, following in the path of the mission and values of the School Sisters of Saint Francis. Residents at Marian Hall Home typically range in age from their mid-70s to their upper-90s, both female and male. Many are Catholic, and most — but not all — come from the Pittsburgh area. In cases where assisted-living arrangements are appropriate for them, married couples share a room. Marian Hall Home residents enjoy an excellent quality-of-life experience. Achieving physical, spiritual and emotional balance for residents is one of the objectives of Marian Hall's staff. Feedback from residents indicates that we are meeting these objectives.

Today we are remembering our friend and long-time employee Bernie Wyzkoski, who died on Mother's Day. Bernie worked at Marian Hall for 36 years before retiring at age 80. "She absolutely loved her job and loved working here," her daughter told us. "She always joked that she should have stayed a few more years." May dear Bernie rest in peace.

Many of our Residents are expecting special visits on Sunday for Mother’s Day, but some family members were able to join us for today’s Mother’s Day Luncheon. While enjoying a special menu, all soaked in the musical stylings of violinist Devon Arrington, who serenaded us with everything from Broadway classics to “Ave Marie,” Schubert’s timeless ode to Mary and motherhood. We hope that all Mt. Assisi Place moms — the ones who live here, the ones who work here, and the ones who raised us — have a wonderfully restful Mother’s Day Weekend.

We were blessed to welcome our old friends from Amazing Scholar Academy Preschool back to our hilltop today. They generously delivered small gifts to each of our Residents and raised more than $400 for us to purchase a smart TV and mobile cart so our Activities team can share special programming with our Residents all around the building. Following the success of our "I Love Lucy" mini-marathon last fall, we're looking to forward to screening such classics as "The Carol Burnett Show" in the coming months.

We had a very hippity-hoppity Easter here at Mt. Assisi Place. We were delighted to learn that the Bunny Trail led right up to the door of our facility, and in hopped the Easter Bunny … three times! They brought both treats and joy to our Residents during Holy Week, visiting our Dining Room, lounges and even Resident rooms. While Mrs. Easter Bunny was here on April 2, she spread a little springtime joy to the children of The Saint Constantine School of Pittsburgh, as well. Special thanks to Mary Pegg, daughter of former Resident Loraine Poslusny, for visiting in her beautifully-detailed costume and making everyone’s smile shine a little brighter. We also appreciate our friends from Monarch and Commonwealth Hospices for sending their own bunnies on April 3, to keep the fun hopping a little longer.

There are certain days throughout the year that truly stand out here at Mt. Assisi Place. Easter Egg Day is surely one of them, as the tradition of coloring eggs brings out the child still very much alive in each of our Residents. This year, that special day was April 2, when Residents in both Antonia and Marian Halls dyed eggs and enjoyed each other’s company, against a backdrop of spring sunshine streaming in through the surrounding windows. “I just love this day,” says Karen Vevers, activities director. “They always have so much fun.” The bright colors and brilliant smiles show how a timeless holiday tradition — one that our Residents once shared with their own children — still evokes fond memories and youthful enthusiasm.

Our friends from Heartland Hospice stopped by earlier this week to guide our Residents in a special Valentine's Day crafts workshop. Using varied materials, Residents constructed impressive, layered decorations to display on their doors in this season of sweethearts.

Over a a very memorable weekend in January, our local area experienced especially frigid temperatures and the most significant snowfall in more than a decade. Because our commitment to caring for our Residents never takes a snow day, we pushed through the challenges of the weekend and its aftermath with the dedication of our very own Snow Angels. Mt. Assisi Place extends special gratitude and appreciation to the following people who not only showed up, but stayed here, and responded to the situation with exceptional grace. We ALL thank you.
