JOEY. These are the only pictures I have of him. I cherish them and wish I had more.
Joey was a good person. I met him when I started my first year at Hickory Middle School. My dad was his neighbor. Changing schools was scary for me but Joey made sure I got on the bus and had a good first day. I will always remember our walks to the local Mini Mart to get junk food and I am not going to lie... cigarettes..lol. We would walk the neighborhood for hours just talking and hanging out. We took a lot of walks through the woods, went on 4 wheeler riders.... probably a little too fast...lol..but we always had a blast.
I could call him anytime and he would answer, we had a lot of 2am talks about life. He was always there to listen and help me. If I needed him he was there. He was a friend like no other. He would have done anything for me.
He made me laugh, he was a crazy guy, fearless. You never saw his pain. I wish I would have noticed. I wish I would have known. He deserved to be here. I often wonder where he'd be and what he would have been doing.
He left me a note. It was found the next day. I take it out and read it.....not as much as I used to but it was all about me. At his worst moment he was thinking of others and not himself. He had such a huge heart.
I will share his story as long as I am here on Earth. He mattered, he deserved to be here.

✨Some people are not suicidal because they want to die.

Sometimes they are exhausted from carrying pain that feels impossible to explain. Sometimes they are overwhelmed by loss, trauma, loneliness, financial struggles, mental illness, or life circumstances that seem never-ending.

A recent report highlighted by CNN found that nearly 1.2 billion people worldwide were living with mental disorders in 2023, a number that has almost doubled since 1990.
Anxiety and depression were among the most common conditions affecting people globally.

Behind many smiles are silent battles.
Behind many "I'm okay" responses are struggles that nobody sees.
And behind many suicidal thoughts is often not a desire to die, but a desire for the pain to stop.

Mental health challenges are more common than many people realize, and they can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, profession, faith, or social status.

Let us choose compassion over judgment.
Let us listen more.
Let us check in on one another.
Let us create spaces where people feel safe enough to ask for help.

You never truly know what someone may be carrying.

πŸ’› Hope matters.
πŸ’› Support matters.
πŸ’› Your life matters.

πŸ’™ JUNE IS MEN'S MENTAL HEALTH MONTH πŸ’™

Let's learn something that is not talked about enough:

Globally, men account for the majority of su***de deaths. Every year, more than 500,000 men lose their lives to su***de β€” a heartbreaking reminder that too many are suffering in silence.

β€’ Around 525,000 men die by su***de each year
β€’ Over 10,000 every week
β€’ More than 1,400 every day
β€’ Approximately 60 every hour
β€’ Nearly 1 man every minute

For generations, many men have been taught that showing emotion is weakness. They were told to "man up," stay strong, hide their pain, and carry their struggles alone.

But the truth is:

Men cry.
Men experience trauma.
Men struggle with anxiety and depression.
Men self-harm.
Men develop eating disorders.
Men face body image challenges.
Men get abused.
Men experience heartbreak.
Men go to therapy.
Men need love, support, and understanding.

And most importantly:

Men feel.

Research also shows that men are often less likely to seek professional help when struggling, even though many are facing overwhelming emotional pain. This is why conversations about men's mental health matter.

It is not unmanly to struggle.

It is not weak to ask for help.

It is not shameful to talk about your feelings.

This month, let us check on the men in our lives β€” the fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, friends, colleagues, and neighbors who may be carrying burdens we cannot see.

To every man silently battling his mental health:

We see you.
You matter.
Your feelings are valid.
You do not have to carry everything alone.

Let's encourage men to speak up, not just man up.

Because talking saves lives. πŸ’™
