We do all types of testing at HearWell Center including this test: Tympanometry. This tells use how much the eardrum or the space behind the eardrum might impact your hearing. It can provide clues about how the ear is venting, how it is moving and how it responds to pressure, among other things! It is a good test for someone that has a hearing issue and doesn't know why or for someone that feels a pressure or clogged sensation. It is quick and most people say it feels like going up and down in elevation (like driving up a hill or taking off the runway in an airplane).

If you have never had your hearing tested, this is part of the baseline testing needed to determine the next steps.

Hey guys! 👋 It's Amy! Some of you may know me as the as the friendly voice on the phone or the person that welcomes you at the check-in counter. Now, a lot of people think our front desk is “just scheduling,” but my day looks more like:

✅ Helping you feel comfortable before you even walk in (because the first step can be the hardest!)
✅ Answering the “What happens next?” questions in a way that actually makes sense
✅ Keeping the details organized so your visit feels smooth, calm, and unrushed

And the best part? Watching the shift, when someone starts the call a little nervous and ends it sounding relieved. ☺️

Spring isn’t just for cleaning your home. Your hearing aids deserve a little love, too! Dust, moisture, and wax buildup can affect sound quality, so regular cleaning is key.

💡 Tip: Wipe your hearing aids daily with a soft cloth and use your cleaning brush or wax pick to remove debris. Schedule a professional tune-up a few times a year to keep everything working perfectly. A little spring refresh goes a long way for clearer hearing!

TV volume creeping up is one of the most common ways hearing changes show up. 📺

A patient came in recently and told me, “My family keeps saying the TV is too loud, but I think the speakers are just bad.” They were a little skeptical, and I get it. It can be hard to notice changes when they happen slowly.

Honestly, I have been that person in other areas of life. I did not realize I was turning things up until someone pointed it out.

So we talked through what they were noticing at home, then we checked hearing and reviewed what it meant for everyday listening. Often, the issue is not that the TV is quiet. It is that certain speech sounds are harder to catch, so the brain asks for more volume.

The best part was the small wins. They told me the TV volume came down, conversations at home felt easier, and the evening felt more relaxed! If you have noticed the volume creeping up or you are relying on captions more than you used to, we can help you get clarity on what is going on! 🙌

Many patients come to us believing that hearing aids will not make a noticeable difference. Often, this belief is shaped by outdated technology or experiences from years ago. What surprises many people is how quickly they begin to notice improvements once they are properly fit.

One of the most common changes patients report is being able to follow conversations with family more easily, especially with children and grandchildren.

Research has also shown that treating hearing loss is associated with a lower risk of long-term cognitive decline compared to leaving it untreated.

These listening challenges may increase with age and as the disease progresses. Monitoring hearing early and considering amplification when appropriate can help reduce listening effort and support clearer communication. A patient told me, “I just avoid going out now. It is too loud anyway.” 😔

Restaurants are one of the first places people realize they are working way too hard to keep up. In difficult listening situations, your brain is straining to fill in missing words; it is exhausting.

I have felt that kind of fatigue in a noisy room, too. You can hear sound everywhere, but it still feels hard to follow the conversation that matters.

So when patients come in with this particular issue, we build a plan that focuses on clarity, comfort, and realistic expectations, not just turning things up. 🙅‍♀️

The small win this particular patient reported later was huge. They stayed at dinner longer, felt more confident, and stopped doing the constant guessing and smiling!
