May is skin cancer awareness month. Monday May 4, 2026 is melanoma day. The photos in this post are just some of melanomas diagnosed in my office just over the past few weeks. Melanoma is on the rise and can be more obvious but also undetectable to the naked eye. For this reason, I use dermoscopy on nearly every mole on my patients. Dermoscopy can help identify changes in a mole that cannot be seen by the naked eye.
The skin is humbling. Listen to it. It tells a story of your health long before your body shows the signs of illness.
If you do anything for yourself this month, take a few minutes to get a full skin cancer screening by a board-certified dermatologist trained in dermoscopy. A dermatologist who can truly take the time to check every mole on every surface of your skin. Melanoma can surface anywhere, even where the sun does not shine.
