Delivering effective vestibular physical therapy requires precise, standardized execution—yet educators and clinicians often struggle with conflicting instructional materials and varying visual quality.

To transform clinical training, Harrell and her team have engineered the Advanced Vestibular Physical Therapist (AVPT) Lab Book. Serving as the core anchor for Pitt’s AVPT Certification Course, this standalone manual equips frontline providers with concise, vetted procedures for managing balance, dizziness and proprioceptive conditions.

On Thursday, September 10, Pitt Athletic Training faculty, alumni and preceptors gathered for the UPMC premiere of “FUnomenal: The Legacy of Dr. Freddie Fu,” celebrating the life, work and lasting impact of the legendary orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine pioneer.

Representing the Pitt Athletic Training community were faculty members Mary Murray, Shelly DiCesaro, Devin Kielur, Kevin Conley and Amy Aggelou, along with alumni and guests Rob Blanc, Fran Feld, Larry Cooper, Greg Meloy and Tony Sanks. 25 years later, we continue to remember and honor the heroes of 9/11. 💙

Since 2002, Pitt’s Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition students, faculty and staff carry on an annual tradition of delivering lunch to the firefighters at Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Station 14 on McKee Place.

This tradition is a heartfelt way to thank our local first responders for their courage, service and sacrifices — and to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Welcome to this week’s Pitt Department of Commercial Translation Faculty Research Spotlight ➡️ We’re highlighting Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical and Translational Science Thomas Karikari from the Department of Psychiatry in the Pitt School of Medicine.

Karikari is the lead innovator behind a novel panel of TDP-43 antibodies capable of quantifying this key biomarker to enable early, non-invasive diagnosis of diseases like Alzheimer’s, ALS and Parkinson’s. By offering full coverage of the TDP-43 sequence, this technology paves the way for improved patient monitoring and more targeted therapies.

For two decades, Cecchini has not only remained committed to the field but has helped shape the next generation of EMS professionals through her work as an educator.

Learning across disciplines! 🩺🥼 On Friday, August 28, students from the Dietitian Nutritionist Program and the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program came together at Fifth and Halket for a hands-on simulation focused on nasogastric (NG) tubes and tube placement.

Experiences like these give students the opportunity to learn from one another while developing the skills they’ll use to care for patients in their future careers.

AI meets health care! 🤖🩺 This summer, high school students from across the country came to Pitt for the fourth annual AI-Powered Medical Imaging Informatics Summer School, gaining hands-on experience at the intersection of artificial intelligence and health care.

“AI is such a fascinating developing field, and that really interests me. I’m also interested in studying medicine after high school, and medical AI was the obvious next step with my passion for AI and informatics.” - Lyudong Yan, a rising high school senior from Michigan who attended Pitt's AI Summer School
