Leadership in EMS means showing up when it matters most—unwavering commitment, visionary guidance, and consistent dedication to leading with integrity and purpose. During EMS Week we were proud to present Scott Strom, EMT with the 2026 Sebasticook Valley Hospital EMS Leadership Award. 👏

After working in Security, Scott decided to pursue a career in EMS and was a graduate of the very first EMS Work to Grow class at SVH. He is known for working well with colleagues, leading by example, and going above and beyond to get the job done.

Rich, Cameron, and Scott from our EMS team had a great time interacting with the kids at today's touch a truck activity in Manson Park! From exploring the ambulance to learning about emergency equipment, the kids were very curious!

Recently, colleagues from area businesses (and some four-legged friends, too! 🐶) came together during the lunch hour to do something very important for our community: fight back against hunger.

Nearly $1,500 was raised at this year’s Walk for Hunger, and every dollar raised will stay local to support the hospital’s work to help those who experience food insecurity.

Thank you to our friends at the Kleinschmidt Group, Danforth’s Down Home Supermarket, United Insurance, and members of the SVH team for strengthening food security in our region—it was a beautiful day to take a walk in Manson Park and make a difference.

Our healthcare teams are a little like…an octopus? Yes! 🐙

Just as an octopus uses all of its arms independently while staying connected to one brain, our healthcare team has many departments and individuals working together toward a shared goal: safe, high quality patient care.

Our Operating Room Team was recently presented with the very first Golden Octopus Award for reaching across boundaries and working together seamlessly to support patients, colleagues, and our organization. For their good work they hold the Golden Octopus trophy and journal where they can leave tidbits for future winners to see.

May is National Speech, Language, and Hearing Month – a time to not only raise awareness about communication disorders, but to celebrate the incredible work of speech-language pathologists (SLPs). We are so incredibly grateful for all of our talented SLPs at Northern Light Health!

At Sebasticook Valley Hospital, we are celebrating Jodine Boyd.

Commonly referred to as speech therapists, these professionals are well known for improving a person’s speech, but they do so much more than that! For example, speech therapists evaluate and treat swallowing and feeding difficulties, which may be the result of an illness, surgery, stroke, or injury. They help patients with cognitive disorders, such as those that result from a stroke or brain injury, helping them to organize thoughts, pay attention, plan, remember, and/or problem solve.

Thank you to all of our SLPs across the state for their compassion, dedication, and commitment to their patients, as they work to make their lives better every day.
