Could Severs Disease, Osgood Sclatter’s, Hip Apophysitits, and Lumbar PARS stress response share a similar mechanism beyond a natural vulnerability during a child’s maturing years ?

Why Do Concussion Symptoms Sometimes Persist?

Most people expect concussion symptoms to resolve within a few weeks.

But many patients experience dizziness, headaches, fatigue, brain fog, or visual sensitivity that continue for months.

When that happens, people are often told:

• “Everything looks normal.”
• “You just need more time.”
• “Try to reduce stress.”

In reality, persistent concussion symptoms often occur because one or more neurologic systems has not yet fully reintegrated after injury.

The brain must coordinate several systems simultaneously:

• vision
• vestibular (balance)
• body position and movement
• autonomic regulation

When one of these systems becomes the primary constraint, the brain works harder to stabilize the mismatch, increasing energy demand at a time when concussion has already reduced metabolic efficiency.

We wrote a guide explaining:

• why symptoms sometimes persist
• how these neurologic systems interact
• what evaluation should focus on during recovery

You can read the full guide here:

Most concussions heal in a few weeks.
Some don’t.

If symptoms keep cycling…
If school tolerance stalls…
If exercise triggers setbacks…
If your athlete feels “almost better” for months…

It may not be a time problem.

It may be a sequencing problem.

In persistent concussion cases, the issue is often not ongoing injury, it’s an unresolved neurologic system that hasn’t been restored to capacity.

When load increases before that system is ready, regression happens.

At Pittsford Performance Care, we follow one rule:

Capacity before load.

Recovery isn’t defined by “feeling better.”
It’s defined by tolerating full school, full sport, and real-world demand, without crashing 24–48 hours later.

If your athlete is in the first 24 hours, the first week, or stuck weeks later…

We created a Concussion Guide outlining what to consider early, and what to watch for if recovery stalls.

Comment “GUIDE” or send us a message and we’ll share it with you.

Persistent concussion is frustrating.
But when sequencing is correct, it is often solvable.

Home from college? Still dealing with an injury that never fully healed?

Fall is the season when momentum and injuries collide and too many athletes get stuck in “wait and see” mode.

At Pittsford Performance Care, we take a neurologically-driven approach that identifies the real problem fast, accelerates recovery, and protects performance.

Our athletes return to play 39% faster than national benchmarks.

🏆 Here’s to Sectionals — Just 2 Weeks Away! 🏊‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏈

This time of year is packed with fall athletes sharpening their edge before the big stage. And something pretty incredible happened recently:

In just the last two weeks, three new athletes came to the practice after injuries were holding them back:

💧 A female swimmer struggling to train at full capacity.
🏃‍♀️ A female cross country runner limited by pain during peak season.
🏈 A quarterback with sidelining shoulder pain who returned with more velocity and accuracy than before the injury.

All three not only got their injuries fully resolved… they each set personal records upon their return.

That’s what happens when you restore neurologic readiness, address the root cause, and unlock the body’s potential ... fast.

🔥 Sectionals are coming. Let’s go !!!

Fatigue is the Silent Injury Risk

From Dr. Luckey

Lately, I’ve noticed more injuries that can be traced back to one factor: fatigue.

I’ll always endorse hard, explosive work and mental toughness. These stresses build resilience. But overtraining often comes from too much time under demand, not from effort itself.

In fact, many athletes benefit from training harder and more precisely, for shorter durations. This builds durability in a very different, and often more effective, way.

Still, remember this: physical and neurologic recovery only happen in deep sleep. When schedules are filled with social, cognitive, and physical demands, strategic rest is as important as the training itself.

Train smart. Recover deep. Perform better.
