Last week, our residents at celebrated National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day with delicious cookie treats and a fun make-your-own smiling cookie craft! From tasty treats to googly-eyed creations, it was a sweet day filled with creativity, laughter, and plenty of smiles. 😄🍪

🎉 July Birthday Celebration!🎂🥳

We had a fantastic time celebrating all of our July birthdays at Villa Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation! Residents gathered together for an afternoon filled with laughter, delicious cake, festive decorations, colorful "Happy Birthday" necklaces, and fun mid-2000s louvers sunglasses in every color imaginable.

It was wonderful to see everyone smiling, celebrating, and making special memories with friends!

🖼️✨ A Masterpiece Moment at Villa Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation! ✨🖼️

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful painting activity where they had the opportunity to bring their ideas to life on canvas! With brushes in hand and colorful paints to choose from, residents created their own unique works of art while enjoying a relaxing and engaging activity together. It was a beautiful time filled with conversation, laughter, and smiles!

🎯🎉 A Day of Tabletop Fun! 🎉🎯

Our residents had a fantastic time enjoying an afternoon of tabletop games! They showed off their skills with air hockey, tested their aim during carnival-style ring toss, and had a blast knocking down cans in a fun target practice challenge. It was a wonderful day filled with friendly competition, laughter, and plenty of smiles!

Our residents enjoyed a fun and colorful activity creating beautiful beach ball suncatchers! They had fun selecting colors, designing their own unique creations, and adding a touch of summer-inspired creativity to their day. Activities like these provide a wonderful opportunity for relaxation, self-expression, connection, and enjoying the simple joy of making something special together.

🏆💙 Celebrating Our Volunteer of the Year: Rose Prince! 🌟👏

We are incredibly proud to share that Rose Prince was recognized with the Volunteer of the Year Award at the 97th CAHCF/CCAL Annual Meeting!

Rose has been a cherished member of the Villa Maria family for 14 years, and her dedication extends far beyond the end of her workday. Even after her shift ends, she continues to give her time, energy, and heart by volunteering to support our residents and community. Her compassion, selflessness, and unwavering commitment make a lasting impact every single day.

As Rose accepted this well-deserved honor, the room rose to its feet in a heartfelt standing ovation, a powerful reflection of the admiration and gratitude so many have for her dedication and service.

💙 A Heartfelt Thank You 💙

This week, the Villa Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation family was deeply touched by the kindness and generosity of Mrs. Torrence's family.

Mrs. Torrence called Villa Maria home for nearly four years, and following her passing, her son visited to express his gratitude for the care and compassion shown to his mother throughout her stay. He presented two generous $500 donations—one for our Staff Appreciation Fund and another for our Residents' Fund—along with a beautiful cake decorated in Villa Maria's colors that simply read, "Thank You."

He shared that entrusting his mother's care to a nursing home was one of the most difficult decisions his family had ever faced. What gave them comfort, he said, was the genuine compassion, dignity, and personal attention she received from our team each day. He also shared that he proudly left Villa Maria a five-star Google review in recognition of the exceptional care his mother experienced.

To the Torrence family, thank you for your heartfelt generosity and for allowing us the privilege of caring for Mrs. Torrence. Your kindness and words of appreciation mean more than we can express, and her memory will always hold a special place in our hearts.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Meet Our New Director of Nursing – Danica Urda 🌟

Please join us in welcoming Danica Urda as the new Director of Nursing at Villa Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation!

Danica brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, leadership, and compassion to our team. Before becoming a nurse, she worked as an EMT, where she discovered her passion for caring for others. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), building on her Finance degree from the University of Connecticut.

She began her nursing career in the Emergency Department, where she has spent the past 3½ years caring for patients and continues to work on a per diem basis to stay connected to bedside care. Most recently, Danica served as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton, Connecticut, where she developed her leadership skills, mentored nursing staff, and helped ensure exceptional resident care.

Originally from Simsbury, Connecticut, Danica enjoys spending time by the water and recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a beach house in East Lyme, which she is renovating with her parents. She is passionate about fostering a positive, supportive environment where teamwork, communication, and compassionate care help both residents and staff thrive.

We are excited to have Danica leading our nursing team and look forward to the knowledge, leadership, and enthusiasm she brings to Villa Maria. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome! 💙
