Doy Ray Morkert
Although Doy made 80 look good, and lived a full life, he passed away comfortably mid May in his Hot Springs MT home. He had health concerns, but continued to keep up his spirits and a daily routine. He was still chopping and packing wood. Doy's passing took many by surprise. A backwoodsman from the start, eager to explore what the outdoors had to offer.
He was born in his grandmother Lambert's home, prematurely in Thompson falls MT. He arrived having four half siblings, and was the second of five children born to Theodore "Ted" Ralph Morkert and Velma "Ruthe" (Lambert) Morkert. As children, Doy, with his older sister Joy and younger siblings Dale, Barb and Mickey, lived in various places in western MT and attended many schools from Noxon to E Missoula. In 1958 his family was off to OR. As a teenager he worked in the woods, on boats and the docks in Oregon.
In 1966 as a young adult, his family made their way to Portland, OR and his path crossed with Myrna, whom he met in E. Missoula as child. Doy and Myrna L Scott then married in 1968. Together they shared a variety of values and passions, nature, health, healing, rocks/crystals, wood working, and hand made art & growing too. They were in their element outdoors, from the Pacific NW, back to MT, where their story began. Eventually in Hot Springs, they opened a gallery to share local talent. Have an ailment? Doy or Myrna may have had the answer, natural path, Reiki or remedy. More family was to come, a daughter-in-law "TJ" and their grandchildren Jasmine, Zack and Tyler. They liked being grandparents and it showed. The two spent a lot of time sharing and exploring with their grandchildren. Doy and Myrna were together until Myrna's passing in 2001.
Continuing on Doy's journey of well being... He was blessed to live on, and meet and have relationships with his grand and great grandchildren Kaylene, Tucker, James, Jody, Neveah, Katy May, and Hoyt. He valued his time with them. From sharing in special occasions, holidays, cutting wood, fishing, taking them somewhere special or picking wild flowers in the spring. Those were special times for Doy.
Adding to his passions, and using ingredients that nature provided, he made healing oils, salves and elixirs. Keeping him going, he cut, sold and delivered fire wood until the end. See a carving out of cottonwood bark, he may have harvested, packed it out and sold it, to or for an artist to work their magic. In addition to trekking up in the woods, the first part of Doy's day for the past 20+ years, was meeting at the Creekside Inn with a group of friends for coffee and breakfast. Something he enjoyed and a nice social start to his day. Leaving with a little treat in hand for Marley too.
Doy was a loyal friend and man of integrity. If he could be there to help, he would, to share his time and skills. He showed up! Doy was a treasure to his family near and far & friends a like. He has many relatives throughout Montana and the Northwest. Doy Morkert will be dearly missed by Marley, friends and family.
