Where have all the mothers gone?
Back to work while we've just begun.
No one to call to pick their brain.
No one to turn to during the rain.
I need you to know that I love you so,
As I question my ability to help you grow.
I just need a shoulder to lighten this boulder.
Someone to call instead of doing it all.
Someone to help me understand why,
When I feel I've done everything, and still you cry.
I'm tired, my breasts hurt, I feel all alone
The tribe came to visit, but now they've gone home.
I need someone, who just understands,
Who'll help me feel safe, wherever I land.
Sometimes it's the laundry, sometimes it's the dishes
Sometimes I just need to tell someone my wishes.
My friends are all working, my mother's not near,
I wish I had someone to allay my fears.
A doula you say, she can help in these ways?
A doula you say is not far away?
She'll lighten my load, she'll help calm my fears,
Her shoulders are strong and can absorb my tears.
She'll help me with laundry, maybe prepare a meal,
Or just sit and listen to how I feel.
She'll look after you while I take a shower,
Give me time for myself, if only an hour.
I'll make the call, just watch, you'll see.
I'm going to call doula Kennedy.
