For the past eight years, she has been involved in treating infants with plagiocephaly (misshapen head) and torticollis (tight neck). Jennifer possesses the unmatched experience and knowledge about this common and often preventable condition. There is a very small window of opportunity to affect babies and their head shape. Jennifer is dedicated to educating parents and physicians alike on how to minimize the risk of plagiocephaly. Skull deformities have numerous medical and social implications. She would like to see every baby have the opportunity to begin life with a beautiful round head!

Works every time.

If you can't go on an actual trip, try a friend's house, new room, new toys, OR letting it go for a few days - don't work on it and just leave baby alone. Sometimes they just need a break!

Try it and let us know!

Find yourself constantly stressing over your baby’s head shape? Worry no more! Leave the worry to your Baby Begin therapist. Enroll your baby in pediatric OT or PT, get stretches for their tight neck going, and get a repositioning protocol started… then watch your baby’s head round out and your worry fade away ✨

This statement would be… FALSE 💥

Babies born vaginally are at no higher risk for Plagio than babies born via c-section. If a baby has any type of skull abnormalities from the birthing process, they typically go away within a few weeks. Head “coning” is the most common one we see. In-uterine crowding is most definitely a risk factor, but the actual birthing process is not.

So, if your baby has a “coned head” at birth, try not to worry! It’ll most likely reshape rather quickly.

However, if your baby is developing a flat spot on only one side, this is most likely Plagiocephaly accompanied by some Torticollis. This would be worth mentioning to your pediatrician and seeking out a referral to a pediatric OT or PT.

Torticollis activities can be SIMPLE! This is a killer activity for babies with torticollis and we do it as soon as babies can reach actively for an object. Remember, torticollis affects more than just the neck. It affects the arms/trunk/hips and even the legs, so don’t JUST to neck stretches. Let’s do some arm work too! 👶
