Breast cancer doesn’t always start with a lump! And sometimes, your SKIN can be part of the clue. 🎀

When we think about breast cancer, most of us think: “I need to feel for a lump.”

But there are breast cancers that may present with skin or ni**le changes instead of an obvious lump.

Things worth having evaluated include:

• New redness, swelling, or warmth of one breast
• Skin that becomes thickened, dimpled, or develops an “orange peel” texture
• A ni**le that becomes newly inverted
• Persistent scaling, crusting, itching, burning, or oozing of the ni**le — especially on one side
• New changes in the appearance or texture of the breast

And here’s another connection you may not know about…

A history of breast cancer has been associated with an increased risk of developing melanoma!

That’s one reason it’s important for breast cancer survivors to think beyond mammograms and oncology follow-ups and not forget their skin.

A skin check isn’t just about finding a suspicious mole.

It’s about looking at the whole picture — your skin, your history, your risk factors, and the changes you may not realize are worth asking about.

Psoriasis is more than just dry skin.

If you have psoriasis, you probably already know that it can be frustrating—and sometimes unpredictable. It’s a chronic inflammatory condition that causes skin cells to build up too quickly, leading to thick, scaly, itchy or irritated patches.

And one of the most important things to know: psoriasis is not contagious!

The good news is that we have more treatment options for psoriasis than ever before. Depending on your symptoms, where your psoriasis is located, and how much it’s affecting you, treatment may include topical medications, light therapy, oral medications, or biologic injections.

A few simple things can also make a difference:

⭐️ Moisturize regularly, especially after bathing.
⭐️ Keep showers warm rather than hot.
⭐️ Try not to scratch or pick—skin trauma can trigger new spots.
⭐️ Choose gentle, fragrance-free products when possible.
⭐️ Notice what seems to trigger your flares. Stress, illness, certain medications, smoking, and alcohol can play a role for some people.
⭐️ And if your treatment is working, don’t stop it without talking with your dermatologist first.

One thing we always remind our psoriasis patients: we’re treating the person, not just the spots.

Psoriasis can also be associated with psoriatic arthritis, so if you’re experiencing new joint pain, stiffness, or swelling, be sure to bring it up with your dermatologist.

If you have persistent “dry skin” that never quite seems to go away, it may be worth having it looked at. Sometimes the right diagnosis is the first step toward finally getting your skin under control.
