Hot take: Flashcards aren’t bad… but they aren’t where most language learning happens.

Save this for the next time you’re playing with your little one. 🤍

A glimpse into what a feeding therapy session may look like. 🤍

For some children, progress begins before tasting. Food play allows them to explore and interact with food in a low-pressure way, helping reduce anxiety and build comfort over time.

For this activity, we incorporated animals, one of this child’s special interests, to make engaging with the food feel more familiar and motivating.

One simple shift can make a big difference in supporting your child’s language development.

Instead of turning playtime into a quiz, try narrating what you see, what your child is doing, and what’s happening around them. Every comment is another opportunity for your child to hear and learn language.

Save this to try during your next play session! 🤍

Therapy doesn’t have to look like drills and worksheets. Sometimes it looks like sharing a favorite book, following a child’s lead, and building connection one page at a time. 🤍

Parentese is one of my favorite early language strategies because it’s so simple to use at home. 🤍

The goal isn’t to sound perfect. It’s to use real words while slowing down, adding expression, and making your voice engaging for your little one.

Have you heard of parentese before?

Communication doesn’t always begin with spoken words 💬

Some of the most meaningful moments in therapy happen when a child discovers a new way to express their thoughts, wants, needs, and ideas.

Whether communication happens through words, gestures, AAC, or a combination of many tools, every child deserves a way to be heard.

If you’re curious about AAC, I’d love to answer your questions!

Around age 2, many toddlers are beginning to combine words, follow simple directions, understand more language, and become easier to understand as their communication skills grow.

Every child develops at their own pace, but understanding early speech and language milestones can help families feel more confident in knowing when to seek support for toddler communication or speech delay concerns.

If you have questions or concerns about your child’s communication development, you’re never wrong for looking a little closer.
