💯💯💯 we work on rhythm training

Early childhood learning involves far more than memorizing letters or words. Rhythm-based activities, like clapping to a beat, have been shown to support brain development in ways that directly influence literacy skills.

Research suggests that rhythm helps strengthen neural connections for timing, attention, and speech processing. Children who can match beats often develop stronger focus and auditory processing skills, which are critical for recognizing letters, sounds, and words.

This does not mean these children are inherently smarter than their peers. Instead, they are benefiting from brain wiring that rhythm naturally enhances, giving them an advantage in learning foundational reading skills.

Incorporating music, clapping, and rhythm games into daily routines can create engaging, fun ways to support early literacy development. These activities offer long-term benefits that extend well beyond music alone.

Play, movement, and sound can be as vital to reading as books themselves.

💪 Consider Physical Therapy (PT) if waiting looks like:
-Difficulty staying seated or standing in line
-Frequent slouching, leaning, or falling out of position
-Complaints of fatigue during circle time or class
-Constant movement due to poor postural endurance
-Trouble with body awareness (bumping into peers while “waiting”)
👉 Waiting requires core strength, balance, and motor control. If holding a position is physically hard, waiting will be hard.

🧠 Consider Occupational Therapy (OT) if waiting looks like:
-Meltdowns when asked to wait
-Difficulty with impulse control
-Sensory-seeking behaviors (touching everything, excessive
movement)
-Trouble keeping hands to self
-Inability to tolerate delayed gratification
👉 Waiting requires sensory regulation and emotional control. If the nervous system feels overwhelmed, waiting can feel impossible.

✨ The Power of Teaching Waiting ✨

Waiting is more than just “being patient.” It’s a foundational life skill that supports emotional regulation, social success, and independence.

HOW TOs at HOME:
* Board games and turn taking
* Waiting in a store line patiently
* Don't allow interruptions during a conversation
* Games to challenge 'being still'
* Do not offer electronics to pass the time

✨ Why Teaching Waiting Matters for Motor Development ✨

Waiting isn’t just a behavior skill — it’s a motor skill, too.

When children learn to wait, they are practicing:
✔️ Body control
✔️ Postural stability
✔️ Motor planning
✔️ Impulse regulation
✔️ Endurance in seated or standing positions

For many children, especially those with motor delays, waiting can be physically challenging. Holding a position, keeping hands to self, standing in line, or staying seated during instruction requires strength, balance, and regulation.

By intentionally teaching waiting — using visual supports, movement breaks, and structured practice — we build both self-regulation and motor control.

Sometimes “just wait” is actually “use your muscles, control your body, and regulate your system.” 💛

🧠 Executive functioning is a set of skills that help us manage time, stay organized, regulate emotions, and get things done.

But for many kids, these skills are still developing—and challenges can show up in ways that look like:
📌 Disorganization
⏰ Difficulty with time management
🌀 Trouble starting or finishing tasks
😣 Emotional outbursts or self-regulation struggles
🚫 Inattention
🧩 Memory challenges

It’s not always about “won’t”—sometimes it’s about can’t YET. Kids need support, structure, and practice to build these skills over time!
