Jonathan Lear coined the term Radical Hope and was used to explore how a culture survives when its traditional way of life collapses. In their book, Lear defines radical hope as the courage to imagine and work toward a future flourishing that transcends the current, seemingly hopeless situation, even when the old cultural framework is gone. For our community, this allows us to acknowledge systemic oppression while continuing to work towards a future of authentic existence and collective liberation.

Did you know you have a gender identity? Yes, including cisgender individuals. Gender identity is not just a transgender nor a non-binary exclusive experience. We all explore what gender is and its meaning to how we navigate the external world. Here are some research findings that show how early we become aware of gender. Along with when a person outside of the cisgender experience may start feeling "othered" and learn to adjust to their social environment's expectations. Inclusivity allows acceptance of one's experience and promotes community. Exclusion can worsen one's overall wellbeing and reduce community effectiveness.

Pride is celebrated year-round at Absolutely Mental Health. As we move through the year, we would like to highlight some prominent trailblazers in history and lean into Radical Hope.

Today, on the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination, we honor and remember Juniper Blessing. 🌈
Her tragic passing is a heartbreaking reminder that hate, discrimination, and violence against LGBTQIA+ people must end. No one should lose their life simply for existing as their authentic self.
