Speech Play Love was my first business baby.

When I started it, I had a vision of creating something different—support that prioritized quality over quantity, connection over compliance, and relationships over rushing from one therapy session to the next.

I wanted to create a space where children felt seen, families felt supported, and therapy felt meaningful.

Over the years, I had the privilege of walking into hundreds of families’ homes and becoming a small part of their journeys. Those experiences shaped me not only as a speech-language pathologist, but as a person.

And they taught me something important.

While I loved working directly with children, some of the most powerful moments happened when parents felt empowered.

When they understood the “why” behind a strategy.
When they felt confident supporting communication during everyday moments.
When they realized they didn’t have to wait until the next therapy session to make a difference.

I began to see that real growth happens between sessions—in the thousands of interactions that take place around the dinner table, during bath time, in the car, at the playground, and throughout daily life.

That’s what led me to the parent coaching model.

Through telehealth coaching and consulting, I can support and teach families in a way that is flexible, personalized, and deeply collaborative. Instead of helping one child for an hour each week, I have the opportunity to empower the people who are with that child every single day.

And because this model isn’t limited by geography, it allows me to reach and support families far beyond my local community.

Guided Growth was born from that realization.

It is an evolution of everything Speech Play Love taught me and everything I have come to believe about communication, connection, and family-centered care.

At Guided Growth, we believe parents are not passive observers in their child’s journey—they are the most important communication partners their child will ever have.

Speech Play Love will always hold a special place in my heart.

It was the beginning.

Guided Growth is the next chapter.

In 2019 I wrote an article for the ASHA Leader where I talked about how, when we see autistic kids who “have words but don’t use them” (something we hear all the time from parents), we so quickly say to ourselves, ‘His words are consistent - I need to start targeting language!’

But if kids aren’t yet using language or aren’t using the words they have consistently, that means we should be targeting foundational skills for language development, NOT yet language itself (for now at least).

Why? Because when these foundational skills are strong...when a child is regulated, motivated, and engaged...language is going to come much more naturally.

I had no idea this article would resonate with so many therapists. I started getting emails from therapists all over the US, sharing that they have always felt this way as well and wanted resources, strategies, and trainings to support this approach.

And that’s how my course ASD from the Inside Out was born. To help support therapists who also shared this philosophy and believed in the power of solid foundations.
