They say August is the Sunday of summer…it tends to feel that way, doesn’t it? 🫡

The anticipation of shorter days, earlier sunsets and sweater weather can leave us feeling bittersweet. As humans, we tend to resist change! Adjusting to new routines as summer draws to a close can cause us to feel excitement, anticipation, and grief all at the same time. These feelings are valid and SO very common!

It is important during this time to practice self care and be patient as your mind and body prepare for the fall… here are some tips to mitigate the summertime blues:

🌻 Prepare for new routines & life changes in a constructive way. Use this time to “nest” for what’s coming next… whether it’s organizing your home, tidying up the yard, or picking up school supplies, feeling prepared for change makes it a little less scary.

🌻 Make plans! There is no better cure for the summertime blues than having things to look forward to. Spending time with your favorite people, turning to your favorite hobbies, and trying new things keeps your brain active and engaged. Try to stay busy doing what you enjoy!

🌻 Soak up the rest of the summer– live in THIS moment! There are still many warm days ahead, and many memories to be made.

Most importantly, remember this: You don’t have to work through this alone! If you struggle with seasonal changes and adjustment, therapy is an excellent resource for you to learn how to cope with these feelings and move forward in a healthy way. Call our office to learn more! 🤍

It’s ice cream season here in Plymouth… and this sign gave me a giggle 🤭 While it’s true that ice cream is cheaper than therapy, at Interpersonal Growth, we try our very best to make therapy accessible to our clients!

We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, HSA/FSA cards, and we offer private pay options with price scaling for those who need it. When you reach out to our office, we can discuss which option works best for you!

That way, you can benefit from therapy AND ice cream… you can even bring it with you, if you’d like🍦

PS… you’ll find the best ice cream in town at the Dairy Go Round right across the street from our practice… I picked the mud with chocolate ice cream (plus snickers and heath bar!) It was amazing! 😋

3 LESSONS FROM THE GARDEN 🪴✨

1. We can’t choose where we are planted…but we can still deepen our roots, brace for every storm, and turn our leaves toward the sun. 🌞

2. Growth requires consistency and lots of water.

3. Good things take time, and they’re always worth the wait. 🤍

…just a little food for thought 🍅💭

Here are some reminders from your counselor as you work through the daily grind… ☕️

Burnout is your body’s way of telling you to slow down for a moment. Take a pause to get some fresh air, grab a snack or queue up some music that calms you. 🎧

Professional life comes along with many different social situations and communication styles. No matter the setting, you deserve to be treated with respect and kindness! ☮️

Emotion is healthy… but sometimes, our feelings can leave us drained. While it’s important to hold space for your thoughts and emotions, try to keep in mind that they always come and go… and no matter how big, no feeling is permanent. 🩵

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is go to bed and reset…and that’s okay. Tonight, be patient with yourself and listen to your body. Tomorrow is a fresh start! ☀️

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

We spent this morning enjoying Plymouth’s 4th of July parade…and capturing the moment, of course. 📸☀️ It was amazing to see our community come together to celebrate America’s 250th birthday!

Today is a day to celebrate not only our country’s independence, but a sense of independence and freedom in our own lives. Cheers to living life freely, soaking up a beautiful summer morning, and sharing special time with family and friends.

Have a safe, happy and peaceful holiday! 🇺🇸❤️✨

Father’s Day brings a mix of gratitude, memories, love, and sometimes a little ache too.

Today we are thankful for the fathers and father figures who leave their mark in the small things: the lessons, the laughter, the stories, the steady presence, and the love that stays with us long after the moment has passed.

Happy Father’s Day!

Growth doesn’t require perfection. It begins with learning from what has been, staying present with what is, and remaining hopeful about what can be.

Have you ever noticed how quickly your inner critic speaks up after a mistake?

Maybe it tells you that you should have known better. Maybe it replays a conversation over and over. Maybe it convinces you that one difficult moment says something permanent about who you are.

But thoughts are not facts.

Learning to challenge your inner critic doesn’t mean ignoring mistakes or pretending everything is fine. It means learning to respond with curiosity, compassion, and perspective instead of harsh judgment.

What if, instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” you asked, “What can I learn from this?”

Growth begins when we stop giving every critical thought the final word.

What is one kind thing you could say to yourself today?
