🌿💊OVER-SUPPLEMENTATION is real.
“More” is not always better, and sometimes it’s riskier!
✨Supplements should support your health, not overwhelm it.
⚠️Supplement safety matters: Over-supplementation can lead to:
• Vitamin toxicity
• Nutrient interactions
• Drug interactions
• “Stacking” when multiple products contain the same ingredients can lead to over-supplementation.
☯️Vitamins and minerals can be helpful when there’s a true need, but taking too many, too often, taking multiple products, or obtaining from unreliable sources can create hidden risks.
⚠️Supplements can cause adverse effects:
• Drug interactions
• Reduced effectiveness
• Enhanced effectiveness
• Synergistic interactions
• Affect absorption
• GI burden or biome disruption
• Delayed care
• Over-supplementation may mask true clinical signs and symptoms
• Create a medication/supplement burden
• The same ingredient is often duplicated across products
⚠️Nutrient absorption in the digestive tract varies:
• How is your gut’s efficiency at absorbing nutrients/supplements?
• Is a GI stool/urine test necessary?
👅Nutrient absorption is affected by other supplements/prescriptions:
• Some supplements lose their potency, or their potency is enhanced
❓Do you know WHEN or HOW to take your supplements?
• With or without food
• With or without another supplement
• With or without your prescription medication
• How much time should be spaced between supplements/medication
• AM or PM
✍🏽This is not an inclusive list, but an important reminder that supplements can be helpful or harmful depending on the dose, the combination, and your individual health needs.
🩵Safer approach:
Before adding a supplement, check the dose, the label, whether it is from a reliable source, and if another product already contains the same nutrient.
🙌🏽You and your practitioner should have a clear clinical goal rather than taking a supplement “just in case.”
