Compassion in Action: Bringing Comfort, Answers, and Care Through Imaging
At St. Bernards Five Rivers, compassion is shown every day through the people who care for our patients. We are proud to recognize Amy Moreland, Radiology Tech, for the skill, kindness, and dedication she brings to every patient encounter.
Amy’s journey into healthcare was inspired by family. She shares that watching her sister serve the Doniphan community throughout her adult life motivated her to do the same. Seeing that example of service made Amy want to help create positive change in the lives of others.
Throughout her career, Amy has experienced powerful moments that remind her why she chose healthcare. One that stands out involved a patient showing classic stroke symptoms, including left-sided weakness and slurred speech. After imaging confirmed the diagnosis, the quick teamwork of physicians, nurses, and imaging staff helped restore the patient back to full health. For Amy, moments like that show the life-changing impact of working together.
To Amy, compassion in action means caring for patients on what may be one of the worst days of their lives. She believes it is the responsibility of healthcare workers to be patient, supportive, and kind during those difficult times.
Amy knows that imaging procedures can be stressful. Whether patients are nervous about an IV for contrast studies or anxious about an MRI, she wants every person she cares for to feel comfortable, relaxed, and at ease during their exam. Helping reduce fear and uncertainty is an important part of the care she provides.
She also hopes people understand the depth of knowledge and training behind her profession. Imaging professionals are highly educated, often certified in multiple modalities such as X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound. They continuously stay current with advancing technology and are often called the “eyes of medicine” because of the critical role they play in diagnosis and treatment.
For Amy, the most rewarding part of her job is helping people get answers. Whether it is giving someone peace of mind with an “all clear” result or helping diagnose an illness so treatment can begin, she values being part of a patient’s path forward.
When asked about the Five Rivers team, Amy says they are among the best in their fields—educated, hardworking, and driven to provide excellent care. She also shares that what she loves most about Five Rivers is the people. From physicians and nurses to administration and housekeeping, she describes the staff as some of the best people in healthcare.
Amy says she feels truly blessed to be part of the Five Rivers community. Even with a commute of more than 30 minutes, she says it is always worth it because of the kindness and compassion shown every day. We are grateful to have Amy on our team and proud to recognize her as our latest Compassion in Action honoree.
