Rooted in this place 🌿
I'm excited to share that ModernAcu is now Pocatello Creek Acupuncture Specialists!
I've also launched a new website, www.pocatellocreekacupuncture.com, to reflect a nature-based approach that's fundamentally different from the Western medical model: you are part of nature, and nature is part of you. I'm still in the same office, with the same commitment to you — but my practice is becoming more aligned with classical East Asian medicine.
Over the past two years, I've been studying with Dr. Edward Neal in his Neijing Nature Based Medicine program, an in-depth course of online and in-person study rooted in the Huangdi Neijing Su Wen. Compiled over two thousand years ago, the Su Wen is one of the earliest known texts to describe how to maintain health and to treat the body once it tips into disease — viewing us not as isolated machines, but as part of the same natural rhythms as the seasons, rivers, and land around us. Dr. Neal, a medical doctor and Chinese-speaking acupuncturist, has spent years doing textual archaeology on this source material, working to recover its original meaning and bring it forward into modern acupuncture practice.
Pocatello Creek runs right behind our office (not the creek pictured here — that one's near Meadow Lake, from a recent camping trip!). This small creek reminds me every day of the rivers and meridians that flow through our own bodies, the same pathways this medicine has honored for over 2,400 years. It felt right to let nature be our guide, and to let our name carry that same spirit — rooted in this place, just like we are.
I can't wait to keep supporting your health and balance, now under a name that finally feels like home. Thank you for being part of my journey as a small business here in Pocatello! 🌿
