Since the late 1980s, the Kasiska Family Foundation has donated $18 million to ISU and pledged additional support, bringing the total gift to over $20 million. The money has funded scholarships, health science programs, equipment, special events and conferences. Kasiska support for ISU began in the 1960s and 70s, thanks to sisters Eva and Mabel who inherited their father’s philanthropic spirit. Wi

lliam Frederick Kasiska emigrated from eastern Europe in 1881 and settled in Pocatello in the late 1890s. A skilled financier and former Pocatello mayor, he amassed a fortune in business, banking, ranching and real estate. Kasiska, who died in 1945, was known for helping young people finance their education or dipping into his pocket to help a friend in need.

“He always said he made his money here and he wanted to show his appreciation to the community that made it possible. It gave him great pleasure to help people and we like to carry on his work…’’ said daughter Eva in an Idaho State Journal newspaper article published in February 1974. That same article highlighted the Kasiska sisters’ early support of ISU—Eva and Mabel were often the first in the community to donate to an academic program or annual scholarship drive.

“We like to think we are helping to attract worthwhile students to the university,” Eva said. Mabel died in 1976 and Eva in 1986, but their spirit of giving continues through the Kasiska Family Foundation. Since 1987, close to 7000 ISU students have received Kasiska scholarships. Many have pursued advanced degrees—becoming nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, speech-language pathologists and physical therapists. Others have chosen to practice in rural Idaho communities, improving access to quality health care for thousands of citizens.

We so enjoyed celebrating with our Kasiska Scholars recently. These are students who have dedicated themselves to their education, and to the patients and families they will soon serve. Congrats to each of them, and our greatest thanks to the Kasiska Family Foundation for decades of immense support. These students embody the spirit of giving of oneself in support of something bigger.

This year's Idaho State University Health Fair is coming up on Thursday, April 2 from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom. Free and reduced cost health screenings are provided, and fasting is not necessary prior to most screenings. Visit isu.edu/healthfair for full details.

The 2026 ISU Health Fair will be Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 7 AM – 5 PM in the Pond Student Union Ballroom

The ISU Health Fair provides health education and information, activities and demonstrations, and screenings to promote awareness of healthy lifestyle habits and disease prevention to empower people to live healthier lives.

The Idaho State University Kasiska Division of Health Sciences public health clinics, faculty and students offer free health screening services such as:

Blood pressure, pulse, and height and weight assessment
Depression and anxiety screening
Fall risk screening
Foot assessment and care
Hearing screening
Laboratory services
Medication review and evaluation
Oral health screening
Traumatic brain injury screening
Speech Language Pathology screenings
Food demos

Featuring the Teddy Bengal Clinic! Free build-your-own Bengals provided for the first 200 kids. Kids work with ISU Nursing students to give a stuffed animal a “routine checkup” from 3-5pm.

Don't forget! Bengal Giving Day ends today at 4:40pm! The Kasiska Family Foundation challenges 20 donors to make a gift to the Eva Kasiska Scholarship, which will unlock their gift of $35,000 to the fund! ALSO, they will match 2:1 for every dollar that is donated up to an additional $15,000, totaling $50,000 if we can reach these goals!

For 125 years, impact at Idaho State University has been built one generation at a time.

From the earliest students in 1901 to today’s Bengals, private support has shaped scholarships, programs, research, athletics, and the arts. That legacy continues through Bengal Giving Day.

It’s Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologists (CRNA) Week! We’re proud to honor the CRNAs in our communities whose expertise and dedication make a difference every day.

CRNAs are highly trained clinicians whose advanced training allows them to provide high-quality anesthesia care and respond quickly in complex medical situations. ISU is proud to further advance the training opportunities of the nurse anesthesia program by opening the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Simulation Center.
