Live NAHA Webinar with Colette Belfor
June 15th at 12pm MT/2pm ET

More than Medicine- caring for the whole body while walking through the storm

Webinar Summary:

"We have to live, like our grandparents once live, from the earth and using plants/oils of ancient times...

We have to live not out of fear, not out of desperation, but out of respect for the vessel God gave us.

I shall discuss the importance of caring for the whole body by combining essential oils, carrier oils and faith. Your body deserves care. Your spirit deserves peace. Your journey deserves faith.

You see, my journey has been 5 years on dialysis and most recently surviving an aorta aneurysm. My discussion will be from experience. I'm supporting my health, by doing more than medicine; by applying essential oils, carrier oils and faith. My goal is to share with others. If I can do it. They can too."

Meet Colette:

Applying practical knowledge passed down to me by my grandmother, along with the skills I have developed over the years in Estiology and Computers. I blend and formulate essential oils in Aromatherapy.

Inspired by the readings of Dr. Jan Valnet, I integrate complementary therapies: Aromatherapy, Hydrotherapy, Massage Therapy, etc to support my health. My current medical conditions is End Stage Renal Disease and in 2025, i had an Aorta Dissection.

I have earned a diploma in Aromatic Science from the Tisserand Institute; along with other Certificates- AromaPsychology, Essential Oils Kinetics - Masterclass, Essential oil Safety- Masterclass, Fundamental Chemistry of Essential Oils, Molecular Dynamics of Essential Oils. to name a few.

In addition, I am a Licensed NYS Esthetician (not currently practicing)

Certificate from New York Institute of Aromatherapy: Level 1 and Level Aromatherapist

Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Usage in Business

Worked 20+ years in Computer / Videoconferencing (past) before delving into Aromatherapy.

Artist.

Thoughtfully yours,

Colette Belfor, CCA"

Dr. Cecile Ellert
Public Relations Officer (PR) Candidate Statement
(Term 2027-2028)

My professional career has been dedicated to advancing aromatherapy through education, public outreach, international collaboration, and innovation.

I am the founder of AromaPro, an international aromatherapy school, and the creator of AromaSoulTherapy™, an integrative approach that combines aromatherapy, emotional health, stress regulation, and preventive wellness. Over the past two decades, I have trained students internationally, authored multiple books, spoken at conferences in North America and Europe, and built educational platforms serving both professionals and the public.

My experience in public relations and communication comes not only from promoting my own educational programs and publications, but also from leading international initiatives that require ongoing public engagement, strategic communication, and community building.

Most recently, I founded the Antimicrobial Resilience Initiative (ARI), an international effort focused on raising awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and exploring the role that prevention, sustainability, and essential oils may play in addressing one of the greatest healthcare challenges of our time.
In addition, I recently completed a Sustainability Leadership Certificate through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where my impact project focused on antimicrobial resistance prevention and sustainable healthcare solutions.

Goals for the Position
If elected as Public Relations Director, my goal would be to help position NAHA at the forefront of the future of aromatherapy.

I believe our profession has a unique opportunity to contribute to some of the most important conversations taking place today, including antimicrobial resistance, preventive health, sustainability, biodiversity preservation, and integrative healthcare.

I would like to help NAHA:

• Increase visibility and relevance within emerging healthcare discussions.
• Attract a new generation of practitioners, researchers, and healthcare professionals.
• Strengthen public understanding of aromatherapy through clear, science-informed communication.
• Encourage collaboration between aromatherapists, researchers, educators, and healthcare institutions.
• Present aromatherapy as both a respected traditional practice and a modern, evidence-informed profession.

What I Would Bring to NAHA:

I would bring a global perspective shaped by professional experience in Asia, Europe, and North America.

I would also bring extensive experience in public education, digital communication, conference speaking, publishing, and professional training.
Most importantly, I would bring a vision for the future.
I believe aromatherapy is entering a new era in which its value will increasingly be recognized not only for individual wellness, but also for its potential contributions to prevention, public health, sustainability, and antimicrobial resilience.

My goal would be to help NAHA communicate that vision clearly, confidently, and professionally while strengthening the organization's reputation and influence both within and beyond the aromatherapy community.

Conference Participation

I confirm my availability to attend the NAHA Biennial Conference and to actively support the organization through conference participation and related activities.

Volunteer Commitment

I am available to dedicate approximately 5–10 volunteer hours per week to NAHA-related responsibilities, depending on project needs and organizational priorities.

Thank you for your consideration.

Bekki Fishelson Kuber
Treasurer Candidate Statement
(Term 2027-2028)

"I am honored to put my name forward as a candidate for Treasurer of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

MY JOURNEY
I come to this candidacy as a small business owner, certified aromatherapist, product formulator, and longtime nonprofit board member who has spent years in honest, public conversation about the extraordinary potential of professional aromatherapy organizations to serve and uplift the communities they represent. I believe strong organizations are built through transparent, careful, member-centered financial stewardship that allows members to
place genuine trust in the institutions that serve them. Building Blue Marble Botanicals from the ground up has taught me one thing above all: passion
without financial discipline is a beautiful idea that doesn’t survive. You have to know your numbers, respect your resources, and ensure that every dollar serves the mission it was entrusted to support. I love this profession deeply, and that is exactly why I care so much about protecting the resources that make its future possible.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

I am the founder of Blue Marble Botanicals in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where I formulate and create custom aromatherapy and botanical products using high-quality, sustainably sourced ingredients. I am a NAHA Professional Level 2 Certified Aromatherapist currently advancing through Level 3 Aromatic Medicine. My background combines science, education, nonprofit
leadership, and business operations. I studied biology for four years (pre-med) before earning my degree in Education and then taught for twelve years prior to entering the manufacturing and compliance sector, where I received certifications in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Points) and Good Manufacturing Practices through Eurofins/Covance Labs in Madison, Wisconsin. In addition to my work in aromatherapy, I have served on multiple nonprofit boards and held leadership positions within community arts organizations including as President of Fond du Lac
Community Theatre. During my term, the organization’s financial position grew from approximately $6000 to over six figures through careful budgeting, fundraising, and long-term planning. Running several nonprofit organizations and a product-based business has given me practical daily experience in budgeting, financial stewardship, compliance, transparent record keeping, and organizational accountability that I would bring to NAHA as Treasurer.

GOALS FOR THE POSITION
● Transparent Financial Communication: Clear, consistent financial communication builds trust in an organization. As Treasurer, I would provide accessible, plain-language reporting on budgets, expenditures, and reserve funds so members understand how NAHA’s resources are being managed and invested in the profession.
● Investing Resources Where They Matter: Member dues are a collective investment in the future of this profession. Working alongside the board, I would support thoughtful budgeting that reflects our community’s priorities: a professionally designed website, expanded and meaningful member benefits, accessible and stronger educational resources, and public education efforts and initiatives that strengthen the credibility and reach of professional aromatherapy.
● Meeting Our Regulatory Responsibilities: My background in manufacturing compliance and nonprofit leadership has taught me the importance of accurate record-keeping, timely reporting/filing, and clear internal systems. I would bring a practical, detail-oriented approach to maintaining NAHA’s financial and organizational responsibilities as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, NAHA holds important financial obligations to its members and the public.
● Sustainable Long-Term Financial Systems: Strong organizations should not rely on any one individual in order to function effectively. I believe in creating stable financial procedures (SOPs) along with a timeline, clear documentation, and sustainable systems that support smooth leadership transitions and long-term organizational health.
● Supporting Aromatherapy Research: The growing body of peer-reviewed aromatherapy research is something this entire profession can stand behind, whether your practice is clinical, holistic, educational, or somewhere beautifully in between. Good science doesn't narrow what we do; it deepens it. As Treasurer, I want members to CLEARLY see how these initiatives are supported and sustained, because this work belongs to all of us and strengthens the future of aromatherapy.

STATEMENT OF INTENT
Running as part of an aligned team alongside Jade Shutes for President, Bobbi Misiti for Public Relations, Denise Cusack for Vice President, and Margot Hertzfeld for Secretary, I helped build this platform together. We step forward as a unified slate because we realize that a truly collaborative clinical future cannot be built by one person alone; it requires a complete,
harmonious circle of leadership. Our mission is to advance the clinical practice of aromatherapy by fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and member-driven community that bridges botanical science with integrative healthcare to inspire both the profession and the public. Our vision is a united aromatherapy community — diverse, empowered, and proud — leading the way in professional excellence, education, and clinical recognition. Two pillars are central to the Treasurer’s role. The first, Investing in Our Community: the principle that our resources belong entirely to the people who make this profession possible means every budget decision I make will be evaluated against one question: “does this genuinely serve our members?” And second, Integrity in Governance: applies as directly to financial management as it does to elections and bylaws. Transparent stewardship of member resources is one of the most essential expressions of organizational integrity, and it is one I take with complete seriousness. Denise Cusack
Vice Presidency Candidate Statement
(2027–2028 Term Candidate)

"I am honored to put my name forward as a candidate for Vice President of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

MY JOURNEY

My path to this candidacy winds through farm fields and free clinics, nonprofit boardrooms and herb gardens, disaster relief work and international plant medicine advocacy. Aromatics have been threaded through all of it—in the plants I steward, the formulations I craft, and the communities I’ve served. I bring to the Vice President’s role not only a love for this profession but the hard-won organizational experience to help NAHA become everything it’s capable of being.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

I’m the owner of Wholly Rooted LLC, a permaculture and regenerative living consultancy, and the steward of Wholly Rooted Farm—a United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary in south central Wisconsin where we grow nearly 500 varieties of medicinal and aromatic herbs, fruit, vegetables, native plants, and trees. I’m a NAHA Professional Level 2 aromatherapist. I serve as Executive Director of Herbalists Without Borders, a global nonprofit dedicated to
health justice and holistic health access worldwide—managing strategic planning, financial oversight, board relations, and membership communications at the executive level. I’ve served on the boards of the American Herbalists Guild and IM4US (Integrative Medicine for the Underserved), developing the skills that nonprofit board leadership demands: consensus-building, governance compliance, and holding organizations aligned with their values under real-world pressures. I also studied Nonprofit Management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 2021, I received the Daily Point of Light Award for my community health and service work. I know how strong nonprofits function, and I bring that knowledge directly to NAHA.

GOALS FOR THE POSITION

● Supporting Sound Governance: Working in close partnership with the full board and legal counsel, I’ll ensure NAHA’s practices are fully compliant with our 501(c)(3) obligations and genuinely reflective of our values—contributing to bylaw modernization, developing clear operational protocols, and helping build a board culture where accountability is a shared internal commitment.
● Championing Full Member Inclusion: Every NAHA member—regardless of certification level, specialty, or background—deserves a genuine voice, a genuine vote, and a genuine seat at the table. I’ll advocate actively for the bylaw reforms necessary to embed that principle in our governing documents and work to build an organizational culture where belonging is structural, not aspirational.
● Bringing Nonprofit Expertise to Organizational Development: The work
ahead—modernizing bylaws, deepening member engagement, strengthening financial oversight—is exactly the kind of organizational work I’ve done before. I’ll contribute to governance reform, support the development of documented procedures, and help build an institutional culture that delivers consistent value to everyone NAHA serves.
● Financial Accountability: Member dues are a collective investment entrusted to us in good faith. I’ll work closely with our Treasurer to ensure responsible budget development and that every major financial decision is made with full information and honest, plain-language communication to the membership.
● Bridging Community and Leadership: NAHA’s membership spans every corner of the aromatherapy world. I’ll listen actively, advocate for the full range of member perspectives, and help ensure that the board’s decisions genuinely reflect the community it represents—advancing our shared presence across research, education, and clinical settings.

STATEMENT OF INTENT

Running alongside Jade Shutes for President, Bobbi Misiti for Public Relations, Bekki Fishelson Kuber for Treasurer, and Margo Hertzfeld for Secretary, I helped build this platform together. We stepped forward as a full slate because true clinical and professional evolution cannot be built by one person alone; it requires a harmonious circle of collaborative leadership. Our mission is to advance the clinical practice of aromatherapy by fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and member-driven community that bridges botanical science with integrative healthcare to inspire both the profession and the public. Our vision is a united aromatherapy community—diverse, empowered, and proud—leading the way in professional excellence, research, and the clinical recognition of aromatics as a healing art and science. What drives me in this candidacy is the conviction that good organizations grow from good people who care deeply and work carefully. Two pillars are central to this role: Integrity in Governance—the conviction that everything depends on a foundation members can trust—is what I’ve spent my career building in every organization I’ve served. And Every Member Belongs—the belief that full inclusion is structural, not aspirational—is a value I hold with complete conviction and will advocate for without reservation. It would be a profound honor to serve.

CONFERENCE AVAILABILITY

I confirm that I’m available and committed to attending the NAHA Biennial Conference.

Bobbi Misiti
Public Relations Officer Candidate Statement
(2027–2028 Term Candidate)

"I am honored to put my name forward as a candidate for Public Relations Director of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

MY JOURNEY

I do so with thirty-five years of teaching at the intersection of movement, aromatherapy, and public wellness education. Aromatherapy has given me more than a profession. It has given me a framework for living; a way of understanding the body, the mind, and the plants as a unified, intelligent system. I believe that story deserves to be told more powerfully and more broadly. Healthcare providers, in particular, need to understand what this profession offers in modern clinical environments.

I share our team’s mission to advance the practice of aromatherapy by fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and member-driven community that inspires the profession and the public. Our shared vision is a united aromatherapy community; diverse, empowered, and proud, leading the way in professional excellence and public education. I intend to put that vision to work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

I am the founder of BeFit Body & Mind, where I have been in independent practice since 1990, specializing in yoga, aromatherapy, and whole-health lifestyle education. I am a NAHA Level 3 Certified Clinical Aromatherapist, a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, and a Level 2 Certified Pranayama Teacher. These credentials reflect a career spent at the leading edge of integrative wellness—always asking how the science of natural medicine can be communicated in ways that are accessible, credible, and genuinely useful to real people living real lives.

Over more than three decades, I have taught in the United States and Hawaii, and internationally in places such as Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, South Africa, Egypt, and many more, communicating complex ideas about natural medicine to diverse audiences. Teaching across cultural and linguistic differences has sharpened my instinct for what lands, what resonates, and what builds genuine understanding in people encountering unfamiliar ideas. That instinct is at the core of good public relations work.

I have created Learn & Thrive (learnandthrive.org), a free public education platform dedicated to helping people live healthier, more natural lives. Building and sustaining that platform has given me direct, hands-on experience in every dimension of public communications: content strategy, audience development, digital platform management, editorial voice, and the ongoing work of building trust with a public that has no shortage of wellness information and is looking for sources they can genuinely rely on. I understand what it takes to translate the depth of our discipline into language that resonates with people who are just discovering it, and with institutions that have not yet taken aromatherapy seriously.

I produce content regularly across written, digital, and in-person formats. I understand the mechanics of communications strategy as well as its creative demands. And I understand, perhaps above all, what it means to show up consistently over time—to build an audience not through a single campaign but through the sustained, authentic, high-quality presence that earns real trust.

GOALS FOR THE POSITION

Develop a Consistent Public Voice: Build a clear, professional, and inspiring communications strategy for NAHA across all platforms, so our association speaks with one credible, authoritative voice.

Launch a Public Education Campaign: Create a meaningful, ongoing campaign to raise awareness of aromatherapy’s clinical benefits, safety, and professional standards that reaches beyond our existing community into mainstream wellness, integrative healthcare, and media.

Cultivate Media Relationships: Build working relationships with journalists, podcasters, wellness publications, and healthcare platforms to position NAHA as the go-to authoritative source on aromatherapy.

Spotlight Our Members: Create regular opportunities to showcase members’ unique clinical expertise, businesses, and stories as part of NAHA’s public-facing content; honoring our community while elevating the profession.

Modernize Digital Presence: Hire a social media content creator that educates, engages, and invites new practitioners, students, and the curious public into our world.

Positioning NAHA in Integrative Health Conversations: The growing mainstream interest in integrative healthcare represents one of the most significant opportunities in the history of our profession. As PR Director, I will work to ensure that NAHA is actively present in the spaces where integrative health practice and public perception are being shaped. This requires a clear, consistent, and credible organizational narrative—one that tells the story of aromatherapy’s evidence base, its clinical applications, its safety record, and its potential contribution to a more integrated, collaborative, and humane model of healthcare. I will develop and steward that narrative with the care and conviction it deserves.

STATEMENT OF INTENT

Running alongside Jade Shutes for President, Denise Cusack for Vice President, Bekki Fishelson Kuber for Treasurer, and Margo Hertzfeld for Secretary, I’m part of an aligned team that built this platform together. We step forward as a unified slate because we realize that a truly collaborative future cannot be built by one person alone; it requires a harmonious circle of leadership.

Our mission is to advance the clinical practice of aromatherapy by fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and member-driven community that bridges botanical science with integrative healthcare to inspire both the profession and the public. Our vision is a united aromatherapy community—diverse, empowered, and proud—leading the way in professional excellence, research, education, and the clinical recognition of aromatics as a healing art and science.

Two of our five shared pillars are the foundation of everything I intend to do in this role: Integrating the Profession into Healthcare—the belief that aromatherapy deserves its permanent place in the future of healthcare, and that NAHA should be the credible, trusted voice that gets it there—and Growing Together, our commitment to a culture where members feel informed, inspired, and genuinely connected to the mission. What I bring is thirty-five years of building public trust in natural medicine as an educator, communicator, and platform builder. I bring a practitioner’s depth of knowledge, a teacher’s instinct for what resonates, and a communicator’s commitment to quality, consistency, and clarity. It would be a true honor to serve.

CONFERENCE AVAILABILITY

I confirm that I am available and fully committed to attending the NAHA Biennial Conference as required of the Public Relations Director.

VOLUNTEER TIME COMMITMENT

I am prepared to commit 10 hours per week to my duties as Public Relations Director of NAHA.

It would be a true honor to serve this organization and this profession. If you have questions about my platform or my vision for NAHA, I welcome the conversation."

Jade Shutes
Presidential Candidate Statement
(2027–2028 Term Candidate)

"I am honored to put my name forward as a candidate for President of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

MY JOURNEY

My journey into aromatherapy began in London, where a single session, a custom aromatic blend applied through massage, resolved months of debilitating back pain and changed the course of my entire life. Within a year, I was studying at the Raworth College of Natural Medicine in England. Thirty-five years later, aromatics still come first, in everything I do.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

In 1991, I returned from London and founded one of the first dedicated aromatherapy schools in North America, at a time when virtually no one in this country had heard the word. The School for Aromatic Studies is NAHA-approved, with certified instructors teaching in thirteen countries. That early work mattered beyond the school itself: NAHA's own founding members referenced the regional aromatherapy community, the New England Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, which I had established in Boston, MA, as a model for their organization. In 1994, I joined NAHA's Education Committee to help set the profession's first educational standards in North America, standards that continue to shape what certification means in this field.

I have served two full terms as President of NAHA, from 2000 to 2003, and 2013 to 2015. During that second term, I created the NAHA Aromatic and Herbal Image Database, a fundraising tool that continues to generate revenue in the NAHA store today.

My books include Aromatherapy for Bodyworkers and Aromatics and Mental Health: A Holistic Approach to AromaPsychology. I am a certified herbalist whose knowledge of plant medicine has been shaped over decades of study with leading herbalists. I grow and distill aromatic plants at Puppy Creek Farm, 70 acres in the mountains of Virginia, where the soil, the still, and the slow work of tending to the plants keep me close to why all of this matters.

GOALS FOR THE POSITION

● Governance Rooted in the Membership: Working in close partnership with legal counsel and the full board, we will modernize NAHA's bylaws, champion inclusive voting and candidacy rights for all Professional members, and ensure our practices are legally sound and genuinely reflective of our values, building a governance culture where every member feels the association truly belongs to them.

● Financial Transparency and Stewardship: Member dues are a living expression of trust, trust in this profession, in the organization, and in the people who steward it. We will earn that trust and confidence through transparent financial reporting, responsible stewardship, and a budget shaped by the community's real priorities.

● A Website and Digital Presence Worthy of Our Profession: Aromatherapy is a living, beautiful, and scientifically rich profession, and our digital presence should be the first place that honors it. Together we will commission a professionally designed website — functional, beautiful, and fully representative of our field — with a modern member directory, accessible research library, and a public presence that invites the world into aromatherapy.

● Member Communication and Engagement: Every member should feel that NAHA is genuinely theirs, informed, included, and connected to something worth belonging to. We will invest in Annual General Meetings as meaningful community exchanges, with published agendas and prompt minutes shared with all members. Member benefits will expand to include CE resources, business tools, and clinical support. We are committed to a culture of open, regular communication that keeps every member informed, valued, and genuinely connected to the work we're doing together.

● Elevating Aromatherapy in Integrative Healthcare: We will forge meaningful professional partnerships and advance public education that positions NAHA as the credible, trusted voice of aromatherapy, from hospital networks and integrative clinics to holistic wellness practices and independent businesses.

● Renewing the Heart of Our Gathering: There is something irreplaceable about the NAHA biennial conference — the moment when this global community gathers, and the profession comes fully alive in one room. We will bring fresh vision and energy to this celebration, widening the speaker circle to reflect the full diversity and depth of our community, weaving together clinical, holistic, and scientific threads, and building an experience that sends every attendee home inspired, reconnected, and proud of where this profession is going.

● Rooted in Stewardship: Our ongoing relationship with the Airmid Institute deepens our collective commitment to sustainability and ethical plant stewardship, honoring the aromatic plants at the heart of everything we do.

STATEMENT OF INTENT

I am running alongside an extraordinary team—Denise Cusack for Vice President, Bekki Fishelson Kuber for Treasurer, Bobbi Misiti for Public Relations, and Margo Hertzfeld for Secretary. We built this platform together because we realize that a truly collaborative future cannot be built by one person alone; it requires a unified circle of leadership. Our mission is to advance the clinical practice of aromatherapy by fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and member-driven community that bridges botanical science with integrative healthcare to inspire both the profession and the public.

Two pillars anchor the presidential role above all others: Integrity in Governance — because everything depends on a foundation members can trust, and Advancing Aromatherapy Across Every Setting, because NAHA should be the voice that carries aromatherapy forward with credibility and conviction, championing our clinical practitioners, supporting our holistic professionals, and celebrating the aromatherapy businesses and entrepreneurs who bring this profession to the public every day. What I bring is thirty-five years of unwavering commitment to this work, as practitioner, educator, distiller, author, herbalist, and past president, and a deep belief that our greatest possibilities are the ones we create together.

CONFERENCE AVAILABILITY
I confirm that I am available and fully committed to attending the NAHA Biennial Conference.

VOLUNTEER TIME COMMITMENT
I am prepared to commit 20 or more hours per week to presidential duties.

It would be a true honor to serve this organization and this profession. I welcome every conversation."
