Before you rush into the next month, take a minute to ask yourself:

What am I carrying that I don't need to carry forward?

Maybe it's:

• Someone else's expectations
• Guilt that doesn't belong to you
• An old story about who you are
• A relationship pattern you're ready to change
• The belief that you have to do everything yourself
• Fear about something that hasn't happened yet

And then ask:

What do I want to make more room for?

More rest?
More connection?
More confidence?
More honesty?
More fun?
More peace?

You don't have to completely reinvent yourself every time the calendar changes.

Sometimes growth is simply deciding what you're no longer willing to carry.

You Can Know Better and Still Struggle to Do Better

Sometimes knowing what you should do isn't the same as being able to do it.

You can know you need a boundary and still feel guilty setting it.

You can know someone isn't good for you and still miss them.

You can know you're safe and still feel anxious.

You can understand your patterns and still find yourself repeating them.

You can know you need rest and still feel uncomfortable slowing down.

Insight is important—but insight alone doesn't always create change.

Sometimes we need to understand not only what we're doing, but why our nervous system, past experiences, beliefs, and relationships have made that pattern feel so familiar.

That's where therapy can help.

Change isn't about shaming yourself for what you haven't been able to do yet. It's about understanding what's getting in the way and building new ways of responding.

Ever notice how anxiety can make you feel like you need to control everything?

What someone thinks of you.
What might happen tomorrow.
How a conversation will go.
Whether someone will be upset with you.
What could go wrong.

Sometimes anxiety keeps us focused on things we simply cannot control.

A helpful question to ask is:

“What part of this is actually mine to control?”

Maybe you can’t control someone else’s reaction—but you can control how you communicate.

You can’t control whether something unexpected happens—but you can decide how you respond.

You can’t control what someone thinks of you—but you can choose whether you act according to your values.

Learning to recognize the difference between influence and control can reduce some of the mental energy spent trying to manage the unmanageable.

You don't have to control everything to feel more in control of your life.

How much of your life do you feel like you can influence?

Locus of control refers to how we tend to view the relationship between our actions and the things that happen in our lives.

An internal locus of control means you generally believe your choices and actions can influence outcomes.

An external locus of control means you may feel that outcomes are largely determined by circumstances, other people, luck, or things outside of your control.

Neither is automatically “good” or “bad.” We all experience both depending on the situation.

The goal isn't to convince yourself that you can control everything—you can't.

Instead, it can be helpful to ask:

“What is actually within my control here?”

That question can help shift your focus from what you can't change toward where you do have choice, influence, and agency.

Take a look at our infographic to learn more about internal vs. external locus of control.

Many people wait until they're completely exhausted before asking for help.

Therapy doesn't have to be a last resort. It can be a place to gain insight, build coping skills, and create change before life feels unmanageable.

As July comes to a close, take a moment to check in with yourself.

🍃 What has been filling your cup?
🍃 What has been draining your energy?
🍃 What do you want to carry into August?
🍃 What are you ready to leave behind?

Sometimes awareness is the first step toward change.

As summer begins, many people expect to feel more relaxed, happier, or “lighter.” But your nervous system doesn’t automatically shift just because the season changes.

If you’ve been in a long period of stress, anxiety, or emotional overload, your body may still be operating in survival mode — even in the presence of sunshine, vacations, or slower schedules.

This can show up as:
• Difficulty relaxing even when things are “fine”
• Feeling restless or on edge during downtime
• Emotional fatigue despite rest
• Trouble being present or enjoying positive moments

Your nervous system doesn’t reset on a calendar. It changes through safety, repetition, and regulation over time.

Gentle consistency, rest, connection, and awareness are what help your system learn that it’s safe to slow down.

You don’t have to force yourself to feel different this summer. Healing often begins with understanding why you feel the way you do.

As summer begins, this is your reminder that rest is productive too.

Your nervous system was not designed to stay in survival mode year-round.

Slowing down, spending time outside, reconnecting with your body, and creating moments of calm all support healing.

Summer can bring pressure to:
• Travel
• Socialize more
• Keep kids entertained
• Say yes to everything
• “Make the most of it”

It’s okay if your nervous system wants a slower pace.

You are allowed to protect your energy this summer.

New season.
Same you — but maybe with new awareness.

What do you want more of this summer?
• Rest?
• Connection?
• Boundaries?
• Joy?
• Stability?

Healing doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like choosing differently.
