Honoring the One Who Inspired Us
As we prepare to begin another season of Yoga on the River, we want to take a moment to recognize someone who helped make this dream possible.
Years ago, Cheryl McHugh had a vision: to bring yoga out of the studio and into the community. Through Full Circle Yoga and the creation of Yoga at the Point, she showed what can happen when someone is willing to keep showing up.
This summer marks the 11th season of Yoga at the Point. For more than a decade, Cheryl, amazing teachers, and generous sponsors have been creating a space where people can gather to move, breathe, connect, and experience the power of community.
Like many community initiatives, it began simply...with a handful of people gathering to practice together. But Cheryl kept returning. Week after week. Summer after summer. Year after year.
Today, Yoga at the Point has grown into something remarkable, with hundreds of people gathering on some evenings to practice together along the river.
What inspires us most is not the size of what it became, but the persistence that made it possible. The willingness to trust a vision before there was evidence it would succeed. The commitment to keep showing up, even when attendance was small. The understanding that meaningful community is built one gathering at a time.
When we launched Yoga on the River in Pomeroy, Cheryl's work was a guiding light. She helped us see what was possible.
So as we prepare for our 4th season, we want to offer our gratitude. Thank you, Cheryl, for leading the way. Thank you for your vision, your dedication, and your example. Thank you for showing all of us what can happen when we consistently create space for connection, movement, and belonging.
The ripples of your work extend far beyond Parkersburg. It is impacting the entire MOV and beyond! Because of your willingness to begin...and your commitment to continue...communities throughout our region are finding their own ways to gather, practice, and connect.
With deep appreciation. 💙
Yoga on the River, Pomeroy returns July 1st. Sometimes the most beautiful community traditions begin with just a few people willing to show up. We hope to see you there!
