Happy Breastfeeding Awareness Month 👶🏼 At PVHMC, we recognize that while breastfeeding provides several benefits for both mom and baby, it is not always easy, nor is it always possible, for every mom.
For mothers who are considering breastfeeding, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusively breastfeeding until baby is at least six months old. Breastfeeding provides:
• Nutritional benefits that evolve as baby grows
• Antibodies that are passed from you to your baby through breastmilk
• Protection against some illnesses, such as chronic diseases, asthma and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
• For mom, reduced risk of postpartum depression, ovarian and breast cancer and more
• Convenience and bonding for mom and baby
For mothers who have tried breastfeeding and may benefit from additional support, we are here for you!
• Our BabyLive Advice platform offers free virtual classes in English and Spanish that our parents can access up to one year after baby’s birth.
• We have certified lactation specialists available at our Lactation Center, which is open Monday through Friday and located in the Women’s Center. For appointments or any other breastfeeding questions or concerns, call our Breastfeeding Information Line at 909.623.6455.
And for mothers who could not or chose not to breastfeed – that’s okay. A fed baby is a happy and loved baby ❤
