Our program’s first event is tomorrow, and I wanted to share a few words that have been on my heart.
As I was brainstorming ideas for this event, I found myself reflecting on all that our community has endured. Grief, trauma, addiction, losing loved ones to the criminal justice system, losing our youth to violence, and the barriers that come with limited access to resources. These are difficult realities, and they can be heartbreaking to witness.
But I also thought about the resilience that exists alongside those struggles. The families who continue showing up for one another. The individuals who keep trying, even when the road is hard. The people who advocate for their loved ones and refuse to give up hope. Time and time again, I am reminded of the strength, courage, and perseverance within our native communities. It is humbling and inspiring to see the resilience of our Ponca people.
This Friday, we are celebrating every person who is on their healing journey. Choosing healing, recovery, safety, and peace is not always easy, but it is something worth honoring.
I see you. We see you. And we can’t wait to celebrate you. 💚
