🔎 When Should You Schedule a Skin Check? 🔎

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, regular skin exams are one of the best ways to detect skin cancer early, when it is most treatable.

You should schedule a skin check if:
✔️ You notice a new, changing, itching, or bleeding spot on your skin
✔️ You have a personal or family history of skin cancer
✔️ You have many moles or unusual-looking moles
✔️ You spend a lot of time outdoors or have a history of sunburns
✔️ It has been a while since your last professional skin exam

The AAD also recommends performing regular self-exams at home and seeing a dermatologist if you notice any suspicious changes.

At Beaches Dermatology, our providers are here to help protect your skin health with comprehensive skin cancer screenings and personalized care. Don't wait. Early detection can save lives!

According to the American Academy of Dermatology the most common sites for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are the face and nose. These areas receive significant sun exposure over a lifetime, increasing the risk of developing skin cancer.

🔎 Be on the lookout for:
• New or changing spots
• Sores that won't heal
• Scaly patches
• Pearly or shiny bumps

Early detection is key to successful treatment. If you've noticed a suspicious spot on your face, nose, or anywhere on your skin, schedule a skin examination with Beaches Dermatology.

Acne: What Is It & How Can It Be Treated?

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting people of all ages. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne develops when pores become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria, leading to blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, and nodules.

✨ Treatment options may include:
• Over-the-counter products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid
• Prescription topical medications such as retinoids
• Oral medications, including antibiotics or hormonal treatments when appropriate
• Cortisone injections for painful acne cysts or nodules
• Personalized treatment plans created by a dermatologist based on your skin type and acne severity

The good news? Acne is treatable, and early treatment can help prevent scarring and improve confidence.

If you're struggling with breakouts, the providers at Beaches Dermatology are here to help create a customized treatment plan designed just for you. Schedule your appointment today and take the first step toward clearer, healthier skin!

✨ Can You Really Shrink Your Pores? ✨

While you can't permanently change the size of your pores, the good news is that the right skincare products can make them appear smaller and less noticeable!

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), these ingredients can help improve the appearance of enlarged pores:

✔️ Retinoids – Help increase cell turnover and prevent clogged pores.
✔️ Salicylic Acid – A beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that penetrates deep into pores to remove excess oil and debris.
✔️ Clay Masks – Can temporarily absorb excess oil, making pores look less prominent.
✔️ Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen (SPF 30+) – Protects collagen and elastin from sun damage, which can make pores appear larger over time.
✔️ Non-Comedogenic Skincare & Makeup - Products labeled "non-comedogenic" are less likely to clog pores.

💡 AAD Tip: Avoid squeezing or aggressively scrubbing your skin, as irritation can actually make pores appear more noticeable.

If enlarged pores are a concern, our team can help you build a personalized skincare routine that works for your skin type.

🌞 The Weekend Is Here! 🌞

Whether you're headed to the beach, the pool, the golf course, or just enjoying some time outdoors, don't forget your sunscreen!

Daily sun protection is one of the best things you can do for your skin. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, apply it generously, and remember to reapply every two hours or more often if you're swimming or sweating.

Your skin never takes the weekend off, and neither should your SPF! 😎
