Just how much can one 4 month summer brain camp at The Morris Center empower a child? Meet Cannon and learn how
leads to Dyslexia Success Stories
Cannon is a young dyslexic man of high character and work ethic, raised by a fiercely loving family — exactly the kind of student worth investing time and belief, like this ADSG award does. Cannon has more than earned the recognition coming his way.
But here’s the part every parent of a child with dyslexia should sit with:
at 12, Cannon was a struggling, frustrated, unhappy and reluctant participant at a summer “brain camp” for Dyslexia. During & after 4 months of empowering Dyslexia brain camp, Cannon’s reluctance, frustration and struggles had fundamentally changed.
Cannon’s initially high reluctance, but diligent efforts at summer brain camp, helped him see he could empower new strengths in reading & many academic skills.
With additional efforts and a lot of hard work after summer brain camp, Cannon went on to earning high grades, enrollment in the Junior National Honor Society, an invitation to join the National Honor Society in high school, consistently strong grades, success in athletics, and now he has earned acceptance to study business at the University of Arkansas this fall. Well done Cannon!!
That progression wasn’t a series of accommodations, supports, or workarounds layered on year after year to compensate for his weaker skills in reading, spelling, etc... His mom’s blog below explains, week by week, how 4 months of focused effort with a whole team of professionals actually rewired — empowered — his brain to above-average performance across many academic skills - on par with his true potential.
That initial shift from 4 months of summer Brain Camp for Dyslexia became the catalyst for Cannon’s own hard work that carried on for years afterward.
If you’ve been told your child will always need strategies and accommodations just to keep up, this story is worth your time.
It’s a fair question to ask:
“what if your child’s underlying skills and abilities could be boosted the way Cannon boosted his?”
— so your child can work toward their full potential rather than having to work around their limits or current struggles with reading, spelling, speaking, writing or math?
Cannon’s mom lays out the real commitment it took, including several layers of family support — parents, aunt and uncle, grandparents — and what it was about this unique Summer Brain Camp for dyslexics that made the difference for Cannon and thousands of dyslexics like him.
Side-note:
Look out for Cannon’s younger sister. She has a similar, but even better Dyslexia Success Stories compared to Cannon’s, as her empowering journey began with summer Brain camp for her Dyslexia at age 9.
In the blog below, their mom describes both Cannon and his sister’s gains and achievements. Read this blog below to know more, so that your child with dyslexia can do more too.
Don’t accept the limits placed on Dyslexics by the status quo - you’re right, your child has the potential to excel in reading, spelling and academics:
